This means that there is a problem with the image's size. The black portions will cover areas that are either too large or too small to fit properly. It will appear without black areas around the image when it is shown on a screen/monitor with the same height and width proportions. Cropping the photo to the same proportions as the screen is the correct way to eliminate the black lines.
