How can I see people's comments?

You can only see the comments between your friends. For example, if your friend replies to a comment from someone who is not your friend, you won't be able to see it. If your friends comment between each other, you'll see their comments.

It depends on where you want to save a photo from (i.e. from message, moment or some page). For photos in messages, open the picture and long press the photo and some options will pop up. You can either save the pic on phone or forward to the chat. Another option is the three dots on upper right corner.

I do not have a mobile phone, only a home phone. Would this work?

You should be able to. The verification code is sent via SMS by default. After it is sent, click No Code Received. The next window gives you the option to have another SMS sent or a phone call - select phone call. When you answer the call, it take several seconds for the recorded voice to activate (and then only after saying "Hello" multiple times). Be patient, an automated voice will come on the line with a verification code.
