You really don't want to move your arms a lot. Some people swing their arms excessively when they walk. You want to be mindful and avoid that.

Practice walking in time to music, the way you would on a catwalk during a fashion show. Keep your back straight and your core muscles engaged. Depending on the mood you want to project, you could either smile or have a more serious expression, but keep your gaze ahead and your expression strong. Keep your hands relaxed at your sides and let your arms swing slightly. Walk with quick, confident strides, but don’t run.

Walking gracefully is all about making your movements deliberate and smooth. Stand tall and with your shoulders back, and take medium-length strides, rolling your foot smoothly from heel to toe. Let your arms swing easily at your sides in time with your strides.

Standing tall and looking straight ahead will make you appear more confident. Take big, purposeful strides and keep your shoulders back and your chin slightly lifted so you look like you know where you’re going and feel like you belong there.

It used to, but to be honest it just looks like you're trying too hard. It is now commonly known as the hooker walk, so I wouldn't try it.

Keep your shoulders back and your head held high. Try to place one foot in front of the other and step onto the balls of your feet instead of your heels.
  • Question
Is it true that if I continually wear heels, my legs will become rigid?
    Tom De Backer

They're beautiful, but not really healthy. They alter the natural shape of your spine, as well as every bone down to your feet. Wear what makes you feel good, exercise, make sure your sleep posture is good, and switch out your heels for flats from time to time.

  • Question
I have being walking chest-out for a long time. Can you please help me to walk straight?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Chest-out is a good start. It's all about a healthy posture. Try lying down on a hard, stone floor; let's not care about the fact that it's a bit cold. Lie on your back, and try to lie as naturally as possible; your spine should be in it's natural S-shape. If you can manage to have that position when you're standing upright as well, then you're doing great.
  • Question
How early in life should I wear heels?
    Community Answer
You don't ever have to wear heels, but if you want, the youngest age is usually about 10. You can wear them younger with parental permission. Or, you may never want to wear them and that's just fine too.
  • Question
How do I walk properly and more ladylike if I am fat?
    Community Answer
Try to gently suck in your gut when you inhale, then keep it in as you exhale. Try to maintain that as you walk. Do not slump or bend. And smile slightly, but not to the point where it's painful.
  • Question
How do I keep the balls of my feet from facing each other when I walk?
    Community Answer
If you find your feet turning in as you walk, this is a symptom of a few problems. Be sure that your shoes fit to avoid awkward limps. With shoes like heels, you may have weaker ankles and naturally angle in for extra support. The easiest fix is a more supportive pair of shoes. Ankle straps, thicker heels, and shorter heels are more supportive and easier to walk in comfortably. Try ankle strength workouts if you want to wear a pair harder to walk in. Otherwise, practice makes perfect. Working on correcting your form as you walk eventually becomes natural if you put in the effort.
  • Question
Do I need to swing both hands while walking? What do I do if I'm stiff?
    Community Answer
It’s unnatural to not swing both arms as you walk, uncles you’re holding an object that may interfere with the natural swing. Try not to think too critically of your arm movement, it shows when you’re overthinking it. So long as you have good posture, project gracefulness, and look natural you’ll be fine. If you become a bit stiff or look a bit awkward from overthinking your arm movement, take a moment to privately gather yourself. Shake it out, essentially.
