    Community Answer
An alternate universe where the original chosen one did not exist seems the most plausible, or you can set your story in the far future when the main cast have long since passed. But more important than the lore, make sure the new chosen one is in fact an interesting character. Make them multifaceted and try to get a good feel for them in your head. Also, try not to make them so pure of heart that it's annoying and/or unrealistic.
