Your Roku device may get warm during use but shouldn't be scorching hot. If your Roku device is overheating, you'll see a red light or the error message "Your device is overheating." Luckily, there are a few things you can do to cool it down. Here's what to do if your Roku is overheating.

Cooling Down a Roku Device

If your Roku is overheating, unplug it and wait 10 minutes. Plug it in again. Repeat up to three times.
Use an HDMI extender to move your Roku device away from the back of your TV.
Keep air circulating in the room and around your device.

Let the Roku cool down unplugged. If you get a red light on your Roku device or see the message "Your device is overheating," you'll need to power down your device for a bit. ^{[1]

Put your Roku in a cooler place. Avoid putting your Roku in a closed area or stuck between other devices. Make sure there's enough airflow to cool down your device.

Use an extender to move your device farther away. If you're using a Roku streaming stick or your Roku device has a short cable, you can use an HDMI extender to extend the distance when relocating your device.

Circulate air using a fan. If the Roku device is still overheating, try setting up a dedicated fan for the Roku.
