How to Spotlight Someone on Zoom on Desktop or Mobile

Spotlighted videos remain on the screen even when they aren't talking, which may be suitable for a keynote speaker; as the host of a meeting or co-host with privileges, you can spotlight up to 9 people as long as there are two or more people in the webinar or meeting. This wikiHow will teach you how to spotlight someone on Zoom using the Windows and Mac computer client and the mobile app. You aren't, however, able to Spotlight people using the web browser. [1]

Using Mac and Windows

  1. You'll find the Zoom client in your Start menu or Applications folder, launch it, and click New Meeting .
    • You need at least 2 participants in the meeting to be able to spotlight videos.
  2. You'll see this three-dot menu icon display in the top right corner of the person's thumbnail when you mouse over it.

  3. Repeat this process to spotlight more people and their videos, up to 9 people. You'll click Add Spotlight instead.
    • To remove a spotlight, click Remove Spotlight in the upper left corner of the video. [2]

Using the Mobile App

  1. Open the app, which looks like a video camera inside a blue circle, that you can find on one of your Home screens, in the app drawer, or by searching, and tap New Meeting .
    • You need at least 2 participants to be able to spotlight videos.
  2. It's at the bottom of your screen (at the top if you're using an iPad). If the menu at the bottom (or top for iPads) isn't displaying, tap the screen once to make it appear.
  3. A menu will pop-up.
  4. That video will display on the screen of everyone in the meeting until you cancel it.
    • To remove the spotlight and return to Active Speaker View, repeat these steps but tap Cancel Spotlight Video instead. [3]

      • If you want to Spotlight yourself when you're speaking, in the computer client, go to Settings > Video > Spotlight my video when speaking .
