Easily tell the difference between a real Samsung charger from a knockoff

Using a third-party charger for any smartphone can have negative repercussions, including anything from poor charging speed to overheating. To tell the difference between an original Samsung charger and a fake one, you'll have to examine details such as the location of the USB outlet, the voltage output, and the print font. If you identify your charger is fake, you can find an authentic one from a reputable Samsung dealer.

Ways to Know a Samsung Charger is Authentic

  • Look for the Samsung logo.
  • Look for the words "Travel Adapter."
  • Check for a model and/or serial number.
  • Make sure your charger is good quality.
  • Check how long it takes for the charger to charge your device.

Verifying a Samsung Charger

  1. Ensure that "Samsung" is spelled correctly and that the logo looks the same as it does on the Samsung website: written in all caps in a sans-serif font, but the "A" is stylized to look more like an upside-down "V". [1]
  2. According to Samsung, genuine Samsung chargers will have the words "Travel Adapter" written on them. [2]
    • The words "Travel Adapter" may be written in multiple languages on your charger. For example, in Canada, you will see "Travel Adapter" and "Voyage Adaptateur".

  3. If your charger has a model number on it, you can use Samsung's support page to look it up and verify the charger is authentic.
  4. Authentic Samsung chargers will also have a serial number on them. You can check your device's authenticity with the serial number by contacting Samsung .
  5. In general, verified Samsung chargers don't have any rough plastic edges, unsightly print, or crooked/dented USB inputs or outputs. [3]
  6. You can also usually tell if a charger is real by attempting to charge your phone. Fake chargers take much longer than the Samsung standard 30 minutes to charge your phone to 50 percent and often heat up quickly.
  7. Since Samsung chargers change in appearance frequently, it can be difficult to tell whether or not your charger is fake. However, if you're noticing that your charger is taking way too long to charge your phone or the USB cable is crooked/bent, you can try to fix it , but it's time to get a new charger—regardless of the authenticity of your old one.
