    You could scatter candy, keys, or your hoodie around the phone, so it's not just lying in plain sight. It can help to have other items that are roughly the same size or shape as your phone like pencil cases on top of your desk. [5]

    Keep the phone out of sight like under your desk or down on your lap and lean forward to text. If your desk has an open slot at the bottom, even better—hold the phone inside the desk and your texting will be completely hidden.

    If you grasp the phone in the palm of your hand and hold it in front of you, the light of the screen will be pointed right at you—even if you dimmed the brightness! Try to hold the phone down near your lap at an angle, so it's pointed at your leg. [7]

      • If possible, put your phone inside an open book in your lap or on your desk. Pretend to read while subtly holding your phone to text behind the cover. Remember to turn pages every so often to keep up the charade. Thick books or binders also work well to conceal a phone on your desk.
      • Ultimately, use good judgment based on the situation. Texting during an important lecture or with a strict teacher is risky. And if caught, your phone could get taken away or your parents contacted. Stay alert and weigh whether a text is worth getting in trouble.
      • Try putting your phone next to a large binder on your desk. When your teacher looks over, barely open the binder and use your thumb to quickly slide the phone inside. This hides it from view. Just remember to periodically glance up so you don't appear suspicious.
      • Rather than staring at the teacher, check on them periodically while texting. Constant eye contact might make them think something's wrong and draw unwanted attention your way. A few casual glances lets you remain aware of their location and movements.
      • Pick a strategic seat near the back corner or side of the room. Being behind other students gives you a buffer from the teacher's line of sight, making it easier to text undetected. Just make sure to stop if they walk your way.
