Travel in Maine.
-
In Maine's northern stretch it travels on an untolled highway. However, nearest its topmost exit - 109, it travels about 107 miles (172 km) until it reaches exit 2 - and drops back to untolled as it crosses into New Hampshire. The tolled highway is considered the Maine Turnpike. Although it starts nearly eastbound, around Bennett it begins its southwest journey until it reaches its more westbound journey near Bangor. It then travels more westbound until it reaches Newport then dips southwest traveling through Augusta and keeps going in its southerly direction until it reaches Litchfield (where it begins to turn more west) and heads towards Auburn. In Auburn, it becomes more southwest again until it reaches Gray. At Gray, the roadway turns into a southeastern route until it reaches Portland, Maine, and turns more southwest again passing Old Orchard Beach, Kennebunk, and York.
- Most 2-axle vehicles should expect to pay about $8 (through E-ZPass) or about $6.40 (in Maine-owned E-ZPass). [2] X Research source

-
In Maryland, I-95 travels as the tolled route John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway from the Delaware State line to the interchange with the Harbor Tunnel Thruway (I-895 at exit 46). However, past that, it loses its name. It travels at first - westward - until it reaches near Bay View - weaving and bobbing its way around smaller towns that don't want to be directly related to the highway - where it turns and makes a southwest beeline from its present location near Bay View around various aquatic items until it reaches a point just south of Rosedale, Maryland where it splits off an arterial route (I-895) and heads south before bending back near Graceland park and heading back to combine back with I-895 and lose the I-895 designation entirely. It travels more west as the provided tunnel and by the time it interchanges with I-695, it begins its southerly journey once again up until the next section's information - the Capital Beltway.

- At exit 64, expect to find an exit for I-695 onto I-70 and I-83
- In Baltimore City County, expect to find exits for Baltimore's exits 62, 61, 60, 59, 58, 57, and 56.
- At exit 62, expect to find an exit for I-895 into the northern terminus of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel Thruway towards Annapolis
- Cross the Fort McHenry Tunnel. This tunnel crosses under the Patapsco River. Its toll booths are highly traveled through, so E-ZPass is highly suggested here. Many locals know ways to avoid this area, but this toll booth is a required location when traveling I-95. It costs $4.00 for out-of-state E-ZPass, with discounts for Maryland-owned E-ZPass transponders. However, those wishing to avoid the toll will pay a $6.00 Video Toll to the Maryland Transportation Authority. Tolls are collected in both directions.
- In Baltimore City County, expect to find more exits for Baltimore at exits 55, 54, 53, 52, 51, and 50.
- Exit 55 is popular for those wanting to visit Fort McHenry National Monument. However, this exit is also the last exit before the tunnel and toll plaza.
- Exit 53 is ultra-popular with Baltimore as it leads its travelers onto the streets of Baltimore's Inner Harbor - toward Oriole Park at Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium, and Baltimore's Convention Center. It is the auxiliary route I-395 but is so short of an auxiliary route, that most exiters don't know it as such.
- In Baltimore County's second section, expect to find exits for Arbutus at exits 49 and 47.
- At exit 49, find exits for the Key Bridge (northbound signage only) as I-695 onto I-70, though it also splits into 49A and 49B.

Travel Washington's suburbs in southern Maryland and northern Virginia.
-
Around Washington's outskirts, you'll find an arterial ring that contains a circular-belt-shaped path - called the Capital Beltway. On this path, I-95 joins up with I-495 (veering left at exit 27, often called the College Park Interchange ) and heads on the eastern flank ring between College Park, Maryland, the next bridge, and into Virginia, utilizing each state's exit numbers within the belt. (It also has an exit that crosses a western belt to the western flank, but that doesn't carry the I-95 name, and shouldn't be confused.)
- Do not confuse the "Inner Loop" with the "Outer Loop". However, this terminology just signifies the direction of Washington DC on the roadway, where if Washington is to your right you're on the Inner Loop. But if Washington is on your left, you're on the Outer Loop. [40]

- With this route, you'll be on the inner loop heading south. But if you are heading north, you'll be on the outer loop heading north.
- When traveling clockwise, legislators call the route traveling clockwise the "Inner Loop" and those traveling counterclockwise the "Outer Loop." [41] X Research source
- Although I-95/I-495 on the Inner heads into Washington's tip as you cross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, this area/state change (between Maryland and DC) isn't signed and is signed between Maryland and Virginia instead. [ citation needed ]
- In Maryland's Prince George's County, expect exits for College Park (27 and 25), Greenbelt (24, 23, and 22), New Carrollton (exit 20), and Glenarden (19). Landover (17), Largo (16, 15, and 13), Forestville (11), Morningside (9), Temple Hills (7), and Oxon Hill (4, 3, 2)
- At Maryland's exit 27, expect the start of the loop where I-495 W splits off at the College Park Interchange, and for southbounders expecting to stay on I-95, you should expect to bear left there.
- At Maryland's exit 24, expect access to the WMATA Greenbelt green-line terminus station.
- At Maryland's exit 23, expect access to Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland, Maryland Stadium, and the Xfinity Center.

- At Maryland's exit 2, expect access to I-295 towards Washington and the National Harbor, though this is exits 1A-C on I-295.
- Cross the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge crosses the Potomac River as a double-leaf bascule bridge between Oxon Hills, Maryland, and Alexandria, Virginia where the District of Columbia's border dips south but isn't signed. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge is the only bridge to span over three state lines - Maryland, the District of Columbia (for .11 miles (0.18 km)), and Virginia. No direct exit comes into contact with the District of Columbia from I-95 and isn't mentioned on signs. [43] X Research source
- In Virginia, expect to encounter exits in two counties (Alexandria and Fairfax) for the City of Alexandria (177C, 177A-B), Huntington (176A-B), Eisenhower Avenue's exit 174, Franconia (173), Tyson Corner (170B) and Springfield (170A) then bear left and follow signs "I-95 towards Richmond."
- At Virginia's exit 177C, expect access to Mt Vernon from the southbound lanes only.
- At Virginia's exit 170B, you'll find access to I-495 North (western flank), and exit 170A contains access to I-395/495 North, express lanes for I-395 and express lanes for I-495, and even express lanes for I-95!
- At Virginia's exit 170A-B and 170-C, expect confusion to happen, because this is the southern point of the I-95/I-495 connection at the Springfield Interchange/Mixing Bowl [44]

due to lots of interstates going every which way. Follow signs carefully.
- For those expecting to travel north from Richmond onto the Capital Beltway, follow signs instead. However, while you should expect to enter it via the left-hand lanes, it'll turn right and bring you back into the eastern flank traveling back towards the College Park (MD) Interchange. However, this is a terrible area until you begin reading signs following this route carefully.
Advertisement - Do not confuse the "Inner Loop" with the "Outer Loop". However, this terminology just signifies the direction of Washington DC on the roadway, where if Washington is to your right you're on the Inner Loop. But if Washington is on your left, you're on the Outer Loop. [40]

In North Carolina, expect a more southwest journey through about the center part of the middle portion of the state. Although most of the journey is through rural areas of the state, [49] X Research source it does pass around most of the big cities and even near its capital city - Raleigh. However, these exits - also according to them - are unnumbered - with exits in Boca Raton, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, Ives Estates-Ojus, Golden Glades, and Miami at present. [69] X Research source Although toll rates vary depending on distance traveled, as of June 2023, a trip end to end would cost about $1.50 (US) with each span costing $0.50 over three toll areas. [70] X Research source However, tolls may increase and decrease to suit the demand of Florida's SunPass toll transmitter program and the State of Florida.
