A step-by-step guide to taking back organic search results
Are you frustrated by the AI summaries in your Google searches? You're not alone. While you can't disable the feature in your settings, there are now easy ways to keep AI from cluttering your search results on your Android, iPhone, and iPad. This article covers easy workarounds for turning off Google AI Overviews using Google's new web search filter.
Disabling Google AI Overviews
Use the "web" filter to remove AI overviews from Google. Click the Web tab after searching to view the AI-free version of your results, or turn off AI for all searches by making the web filter the default in Chrome on your computer and phone , as well as in Firefox .

Disabling AI Overviews in Chrome (Desktop)

Open your Chrome search engine settings. A quick way to get there is to type or paste chrome://settings/searchEngines into the address bar and press Enter or Return . [5] X Research source

Create an AI-free shortcut and click Add . Here's what you'll need to do:
- In the "Name" field, type a name for your shortcut like AI-Free Google .
- In the "Shortcut" field, type @web .
- In the "URL" field, type or paste this code: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14

Click the three dots â‹® next to the shortcut and select Make default . This sets your default search engine as the AI-free version of Google. Now that Google AI overviews are disabled, you can search to your heart's content without seeing AI in the results.
- If you need to set your default search engine back to the standard, AI-filled version of Google, just return to your search settings, click the three dots next to Google, and select Make default .

Disabling AI Overviews in Firefox (Desktop)

Right-click or control-click the address bar and select Add Google Web . This adds a version of Google without AI overviews to your list of search engines.

Click the menu ☰ and select Settings . Now that you've added the website-only version of Google to your search engine list, you can make it your default search engine to get rid of AI overviews for good.

Click the Search option. It's in the left panel.

Select Google Web from the "Default Search Engine" menu. Once you set Google Web as your default search engine, typing search terms into your browser's search bar will display results without AI overviews.
- You can return to the regular version of Google at any time by selecting Google from the menu.

Blocking AI Overviews in uBlock Origin

Open your uBlock Origin settings. If you use the uBlock Origin browser extension to block ads , you can add a quick line to your filters to block AI overviews in Google. To access your settings, open the uBlock Origin extension and click the icon with three gears.
- uBlock Origin is no longer available in the Chrome webstore. If you're using Chrome, you'll only be able to use this method if you installed uBlock Origin before it was removed from the webstore. uBlock Origin is still available for other browsers, including Firefox. [11] X Research source

Click the My Filters tab. It's at the top of uBlock Origin.

Add the blocking filter and click Apply changes . On the first blank line in the filter list, type or paste this address: www.google.com###Odp5De
- Once you've saved your changes. uBlock Origin will hide AI overviews from Google every time you run a search.
