Downloading Free Online Books

    • Moon+ Reader is available for free on Android devices. You can download it for free from the Google Play Store . Moon+ Reader is not available for iPhone or iPad.

Importing Books from Your Android

    • Use this method if you have book files saved to your Android (either on the SD card or in local storage) that you want to add to Moon+ Reader.
    • The first time you open the app, you will be asked to give the app access to your phone's files. Tap Okay and then tap the toggle switch to grant it permission.

Browsing your Book Library

  2. This displays your bookshelf, where you'll find all of your imported books.
    • To change the look of your shelf, tap the Options button at the bottom of the menu. Toggle "Use woody background" on of off. Tap the gear icon next to the toggle switch and tap an image to select the wood finish for your bookshelf.
  3. You can browse your entire library of books by swiping up and down.
  4. All books are displayed by default, but you can choose which titles to see.

Reading a Book

  2. Depending on the file, you may see an intro page, a table of contents, or some other information.
  3. You can swipe right to left or down to up to move to the next page. Swiping left to right or up to down will return to the previous page.
    • You can also change pages by tapping the top or the bottom of the screen.
    • If your book displays a table of contents, you can tap a chapter or section to jump to it.
  4. This displays a row of icons along the bottom of the screen.
  5. It's the first icon on the bottom of the screen. This allows you to switch between portrait and landscape mode.
  6. It is the second icon, which is a circle divided in two. Dark mode, which is usually better at night, displays white text on a dark gray background. Light mode displays black text on a beige background.
  7. It's the third icon, which looks like two arrows separated by a dot. This will open a new menu where you can set up auto-scrolling, a feature that allows you to read without having to manually turn the page.
    • After making your selection, tap OK to confirm.
    • Tap the screen at any time to pause auto-scrolling.
  8. This will usually display two tabs— Chapters and Bookmarks .
    • Tap Chapters to view the chapter list and jump between chapters/sections (if available).
    • Tap Bookmarks to browse existing bookmarks or add a new one. When you want to add a new bookmark, go to this screen, tap Add new bookmark at the bottom, set your preferences for the bookmark, and then tap OK .
  9. It's at the top-right corner of the screen. This will open a menu that allows you to further customize your reading experience for this particular title. Browse through the menus and experiment with settings until you find the right setup.
    • Some options in this menu, including syncing your reading position to Google Drive or Dropbox, are only available in the Pro (paid) version of Moon+ Reader.
  10. If you want to illuminate a portion of the text with a certain color, you can do so using the highlighter. Here's how:
    • Tap and hold a word in the text you want to highlight. After a second or so, the word will be selected and some handles will appear on either side.
    • Drag the handles to select the text you want to highlight.
    • Tap a highlighter color to highlight the selected text.
  11. If you want to add your own notes, you can do so using the Note feature. Here's how:
    • Tap and hold a word in the text where you want to add your note. After a second or so, the word will be selected and some handles will appear on either side.
    • Drag the handles to select the text.
    • Tap Note to open a window that allows you to type.
    • Type your note and tap Save . This adds a post-it note icon to the selected text.
    • To read the note, click the post-it icon. To delete it, tap Delete .
  12. If you want more information on some text or just need to look up a word, you can use the app's built-in research tools. Here's how:
    • Tap and hold a word in the text where you want to add your note. After a second or so, the word will be selected and some handles will appear on either side.
    • Drag the handles to select the word or phrase you want to look up.
    • To look a word up in the dictionary, tap Dict . The first time you use this feature, you'll be prompted to choose a default dictionary and set some preferences. You may have to install a dictionary app for some of the options, but they are all safe (and free).
    • To search for a word or phrase online, tap More to display some research options (including Google , Translate , and Wikipedia . Tap the option you want to use and follow the on-screen instructions.

Customizing the Look of a Book

  1. Go to "My Shelf" under the menu and tap a book you want to open.
  2. It's the icon with three vertical dots in the upper-right corner. This displays the More Options menu.
  3. It's at the top of the More Options menu. This opens the Visual Options menu, which allows you to customize the look of the book.
    • Some options may not be available for all books.
  4. Swipe up and down on the numbers next to "Font Size" to adjust the size of the text in the book.
  5. To select a font color, tap the colored box next to "Font Color" and use one of the options to select a color for the font.
  6. To select a background color, tap the colored box next to "Background Color" and use one of the options to select a color for the background. To select a background image, tap the box next to "Background Image" and tap one of the images you want to use for a background.
    • Alternatively, you can tap Album at the bottom of the screen and select a picture on your phone.
  7. To change the font, tap the box next to Font Name and then tap a font you want to use. Additionally, you can tap the toggle switch next to "Bold," "Italic," "Underline," "Shadow," or "Smooth(Anti-alias)" to adjust the style of the font.
  8. Justified alignment automatically spaces the text so that each line is the same length. Tap the toggle switch next to "Justified Alignment" to enable or disable justified text. Hyphenation allows the alignment to use hyphens to carry words over from one line to the next. Tap the toggle switch next to "Hyphenation" to toggle this on or off.
  9. Use the slider bars next to the various spacing options to adjust the spacing of the text. The options are as follows:
    • Paragraph Spacing: This bar adjusts the spacing between paragraphs.
    • Line Spacing: This bar adjusts the spacing between lines of text.
    • Font Spacing: This bar adjusts the spacing between letters.
    • Font Scale: This bar adjusts the size of the letters.
  10. Use the slider bars next to the margin options to adjust the margin spaces. You can adjust the top, bottom, left, or right margins.
  11. Tap one of the options below "Page Flip Animation" to select itSave the look as a theme. To do so, tap Save as theme at the bottom of the screen. Enter a name for the theme at the bottom and then tap the icon that resembles a floppy disk at the bottom of the screen.

Syncing to Google Drive or Dropbox

  1. You'll need the paid version of Moon+ in order to link your Dropbox or Drive account. Once linked, any e-books that you add to your cloud storage will automatically sync with Moon+ reader.
    • To buy Moon+ Reader Pro, tap the at the top-left corner, tap About at the bottom, and then tap Buy Pro Version . Follow the on-screen instructions to make your purchase.
