Fun Facts About Hazbin Hotel

1. Sir Pentious and Cherri Bomb
Before the full show’s release, fans of the pilot supported the idea of Sir Pentious and Cherri Bomb being a couple. The show then gave a nod to the idea by depicting Sir Pentious with a crush on Cherri—and later having her reciprocate in the season one finale.

2. Lute’s Name
Lute, Adam’s angelic second-in-command, wasn’t originally supposed to be named “Lute” in the final version of the show. “Lute” was just short for “lieutenant” and was used as a placeholder until creator Vivienne Medrano decided she liked it and kept Lute as the character’s name.

3. Inspired by Fans
In the show, Lucifer’s reaction to Vaggie and Charlie’s relationship (and learning about Charlie’s sexuality) is a reference to a fan comic by Twitter user astra (@astrallyyyy) in which Lucifer and Charlie have a similar interaction.

4. Charlie and Vaggie’s History
Speaking of Charlie and Vaggie’s relationship, it didn’t exist in the original pilot script! They weren’t supposed to be together, but several storyboard artists interpreted them as a couple when reading the script. Medrano went with the idea because she liked the idea of portraying a same-sex couple in a natural, unassuming way. Thus, Charlie and Vaggie became a couple for both the pilot and the show.

5. Designing Angel Dust
Angel Dust has three sets of arms—but the third set is retractable, allowing him to appear as though he only has two sets of arms, mainly because he’s easier to animate that way.

6. Ad-Libbing Lines
In episode 3, “Scrambled Eggs,” Vaggie surprises Sir Pentious and Angel Dust by throwing them onto a battlefield—and after the fact, they can be heard screaming different things in the background of the scene. The voice actors for Sir Pentious and Angel Dust (Alex Brightman and Blake Roman, respectively) improvised every line their characters were screaming.

Similarly, Alex Brightman—who also voices Adam—improvised the line “Guitar solo, “f*** yeah!” during the song “Hell is Forever.”

7. The Unlucky Wall The destruction of a particular wall in the hotel becomes a running joke on the show. Each time the hotel is attacked or takes damage, the same wall gets destroyed. For example:

  • At the beginning of episode one, the wall is already boarded up from a previous attack.
  • Sir Pentious destroys the wall when he attacks the hotel in episode two.
  • Cherri Bomb also destroys the wall when she makes a dramatic entrance in episode six.
  • In the season one finale, Adam and his exorcist angels destroy the wall (and the entire hotel).

8. Sir Pentious’s Popularity
Sir Pentious was originally designed to be a one-off character to appear in the pilot only. After the pilot, however, fans loved him—and creator Vivienne Medrano grew to love him, too. As a result, Sir Pentious was included in the full show as the second guest to check into the Hazbin Hotel.

9. Working Title
Before the show was officially named Hazbin Hotel , its working title was People Like Us .
