Typing in Hindi on WhatsApp Made Simple
- On iOS, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Hindi (Devanagari) .
- On Android, go to Settings → System → Languages & input → Samsung Keyboard → Languages and types → Manage input language → Hindi .
- Once installed, tap the chat field in WhatsApp and select the Devanagari keyboard.

Section 1 of 5:
Adding a Hindi Keyboard to Your iPhone/iPad
-
Open your iPhone's Settings app and tap General . The Settings app has a grey icon with gears on it. You'll likely find it on your iPhone’s (or iPad’s) Home Screen. Inside the app, scroll down a bit; the General option is near the top of the Settings page. [1] X Research source
-
Tap the Keyboard option. You may have to scroll down a bit. The Keyboard option is right underneath Date & Time in the General tab. [2] X Research sourceAdvertisement
-
Tap Keyboards → Add New Keyboard . You'll see Keyboards near the top of the page. Then, once you tap it, a new page will open with a list of the currently active keyboards on your iOS device and the Add New Keyboard option at the bottom of the list. [3] X Research source
-
Scroll down and tap Hindi . Since your iPhone's languages are arranged alphabetically, just scroll, and you’ll find Hindi with the rest of the languages starting with "H.” If Hindi appears near the top of the "SUGGESTED KEYBOARDS" list near the top of this page, you may not need to scroll down to see it. -
Tap Devanagari . This option places traditional Hindi symbols on your keyboard rather than transcribing them as you type. However, if you’d rather use the Transliteration option, you can select that instead (or select both and switch between them).
-
Tap Done . You may now choose a Hindi keyboard from within your iPhone's or iPad’s standard keyboard. [5] X Research source

- If you’re using an older version of Android, you can instead find the section labeled Keyboard & input methods on the Language & input page.
