Rehearsal Dinner: Father of the Bride Speech Thank you all for being here to share this special day for Susan and John. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Susan’s father, Tom. I am honored to be able to be here and give a speech to congratulate these two wonderful young people as they begin their lives together. I first met John soon after he and Susan began dating, and I wasn’t exactly sold on whether this young man was right for my Susan. First impressions are everything, after all, and John made the mistake of introducing himself while wearing a cat costume. Granted, it was a Halloween party, but come on, John. Show some decorum! Whiskers are not proper “meeting your girlfriend’s dad” attire. All jokes aside, I’m glad to say we got past that first introduction. John and Susan spent the next few years joined at the hip, so I got to know him very well. And, as everyone here is well aware, John’s a great guy. The way he has treated and cared for my daughter assures me that he’s going to be a wonderful husband, and I’m sure he will make Susan very happy. Remember what Barnett Brickner said: “Success in marriage does not come merely through finding the right mate, but through being the right mate as well.” Always treat each other well and cherish one another. Congratulations to the bride and groom!
