Join new groups, classes, or organizations that you’re interested in. * Book clubs * Exercise classes * Classes on a subject or skill you’ve always found interesting * Religious groups * Meditation classes * Volunteer organizations * Online communities Start conversations about something you have in common, or something around you. “Have you ever been to this class before? It’s my first time even doing yoga. I don’t know how good I’ll be…” “OK, that last song was awesome. I’ve never heard them perform it before, have you?” Introduce yourself in a casual, friendly way to new people. “I’m Emma, by the way. Nice to meet you.” “This is actually my first time coming to one of these meetings, so I’m still trying to meet everyone. I’m John.” Ask them questions about themselves. “What genre do you think our first book will be? What’s your favorite book, or your favorite genre to read?” “Are you from here originally?” “Where did you hear about this class? What got you interested?” Let relationships form naturally and ask if they want to hang out after you’ve gotten to know each other a little. “I can’t believe I met someone who loves that show as much as I do! Would you want to watch together sometime?” “I know that movie’s a classic, but I’m ashamed to say I’ve never seen it… would you introduce it to me sometime?”
