Non-relevant information * Details that go off-point or are rambling will lose your audience. Too much information will distract from what you hope to accomplish. Excessive writing for bulleted points * A long drawn out paragraph that is too detailed or tries to explain too much will be difficult to work off of when presenting your points. When you write too much, you’ll be tempted just to read what you’ve written, instead of using it as a prompt, which is tedious for the audience and which appears inauthentic or unconfident. Obscuring the main point * If you go on tangents, or don’t develop talking points that directly relate to the main point, the proposed idea will get lost on your audience. If connections aren’t clearly presented, your audience won’t make the connections themselves. Using metaphorical or figurative examples * If you want a call to action, and you want to motivate your audience, don’t bulk up your examples with theoretical or metaphorical illustrations — present clear, concrete evidence and examples.
