Introduce yourself simply and quickly, and tell the audience why you are running for school president. Hello everyone. My name is Caroline Johnson, and I’m a junior. When it comes to classroom technology, Stony Brook High is consistently ranked below neighboring schools, in terms of both the quality and accessibility of our technological offerings. As class president, I will ensure that our school has state-of-the-art equipment, and that students and teachers alike are able to harness the power of online learning tools. Explain why you are qualified for leadership. Since my freshman year, I have worked tirelessly on behalf of the student body to bring new innovations to Stony Brook. As vice-president of the Computer Club, I successfully petitioned the school board to invest in an online data visualization toolkit. As club president the following year, I helped to improve and expand our school’s website and course hub. And as many of you probably know, I’m the creator and editor of Stony Brook’s first and only online newspaper. Identify two or three major issues you’ll address as president, and explain your goals. If elected president, my first priority will be to establish and lead a student-run technology initiative. This group will work with teachers and staff members to expand our computer lab and to invest in newer and more powerful models. Additionally, I will coordinate with the school administration to discuss ways in which we can improve our online learning platforms. Finally, I will create a channel of communication between Stony Brook and the technology center at Anderson community college. Describe how you are different from your opponents. My fellow candidates and I are all passionate about investing in new equipment and improving our old-fashioned course hub and website. However, I plan to go one step further. As your president, I will open up Stony Brook High to the new and exciting opportunities found within our surrounding community.
