How to Beat “99 Nights in the Forest”

  1. “99 Nights in the Forest” is a horror survival game, and the primary goal is just that—survival. To stay alive, you’ll need to craft your base, find food, and avoid attacks from enemies. When you reach Day 100, you’ll get a cutscene where the deer leaves the forest through a sewer grate. [1]
    • The main storyline of the game revolves around rescuing 4 children , but this is actually an optional quest in the game. It’s a good idea to do it, though, because it will help you reach Day 99 faster. [2]
    • Even though the cutscene shows the Deer leaving, it will still appear in the forest at night if you decide to play past 99 days. You can keep earning survival badges in the game for staying alive for up to 500 days. [3]

Survival Tips for “99 Nights in the Forest”

  1. 1
Prioritize upgrading your campfire right away. As soon as you get into the game, start chopping wood to upgrade your campfire. That way, your campfire won’t go out as quickly (the fire will keep the Deer away from you at night). Upgrading your campfire will also unlock more of the map, so you’ll have more places to explore for loot. [4]
    • Plant saplings around your camp instead of putting them in the fire—they’ll grow into trees. Try planting the saplings in a circle around your base for an inexpensive way to create walls that will help protect you from cultists. [5]
    • Upgrade your fire with fuel sources like coal and gas cans once you start finding them around the map. That way, you can save your logs for crafting. You can even drag cultists into the fire after you kill them. [6]
    • Wait for wet wood to dry out before you add it to your campfire. If it’s wet (blue) it won’t add much fuel to the fire. Wet wood is fine for crafting, though. [7]
    • Upgrade to a biofuel generator or oil drill later in the game. Place the generator or drill so it faces the fire. That way, when you add fuel, it will automatically drop into the fire. [8]
  2. 2
Watch your hunger bar. When you first start the game, keep yourself fed by eating carrots, berries, cooked meat, and chilis. If your hunger bar drops all the way down, you’ll start taking health damage, and eventually you’ll die. [9]
    • Cook raw morsels before you eat them. Eating raw morsels (meat) will cause a small amount of health damage. Unless you’re in danger of starving, cook the meat first by dropping it into a fire. [10]
    • Craft food plots so you don’t have to forage for food. Once you unlock the ability to craft food plots, they’re worth investing in—they’ll produce carrots every two days. [11]
    • Add a crockpot to upgrade your food even more. Pile up your food harvest (veggies and morsels) next to the crockpot. Each time you take a stew, a new one will automatically start cooking. Stews restore more health than any other food—and they equip to your toolbar, so you can carry them without using your inventory space. [12]
  3. 3
Trade with the Pelt Trader for upgrades. The Pelt Trader will first appear on Day 2. Kill bunnies on Day 1 and Day 2 to try to get a bunny foot—you’ll be able to trade this to the Pelt Trader. This is a great way to get a Good Sack or Good Axe right at the start of the day. [13]
    • After the bunny foot, the Pelt Trader will ask for a wolf pelt, Alpha pelt, and bear pelt.
  4. 4
Explore the map and loot during the day. When you loot, you can find all kinds of useful equipment, including scrap metal, wood, fuel, better weapons and armor, bandages, and more. It’s a good idea to craft a map at your crafting bench—any areas you’ve already explored will turn green on the map. That way, you’ll know where you haven’t been yet so you won’t waste time exploring the same areas. [14]
    • Put all metal objects into the grinder on the crafting bench. They’ll turn into scrap metal, which you need for crafting. You don’t need metal for anything else (unless you craft an ammo crate later in the game).
    • Open every chest you find. Chests often have valuable equipment, like upgraded sacks and axes, plus flashlights and weapons. Ruby and gold chests have the best loot. [15]
    • You’ll find better loot further from your base. But be careful—if you’re away from your campfire at night, you’ll be more likely to encounter enemies like the Deer or wolves.
  5. 5
Keep moving to avoid taking damage in combat. Unless you have a ranged weapon, the best way to kill cultists and wild animals is to continuously move around them. Strike with your axe or spear when you get close enough, and keep circling around them until they die.
    • Target the cultists with crossbows first. The first wave of cultists won’t use ranged weapons, but they will later in the game. If you kill the ranged cultists first, it will be easier to take out the ones with melee weapons. [16]
    • Use traps and ranged weapons for easier kills later in the game. As you explore, you’ll likely find weapons like shotguns and rifles. These make it a lot easier to kill enemies since you don’t have to get right up on them.
    • Switch your weapons for faster reloading. You don’t have to wait for your gun to reload if you quickly switch to another weapon (or unequip and then re-equip your current weapon). This can be helpful when you’re facing lots of enemies and don’t have time to reload. [17]
    • Jump on tall objects to avoid taking damage. Climb on top of buildings, stacked crates, or anything else nearby. This is especially helpful if you have a ranged weapon, since you’ll be able to shoot enemies but they won’t be able to hit you. You can even jump right on top of cultists to attack them (you’ll still take some damage, but not as much).
    • Don’t try to kill the Deer. The Deer doesn’t take damage in the game. You can stun him with a flashlight, but the only way to get rid of him is to wait until morning. Luckily, you can usually outrun the Deer by sprinting, so just try to get back to your campfire as quickly as possible.
  6. 6
Craft upgrades and base protection, especially in longer games. There are tons of objects that you can craft at your crafting bench. You don’t necessarily have to make all of them, especially if you’re only playing to 100 days. But if you want to survive as long as possible, you’ll probably want most of the craftable items. Some of our favorites include:
    • Fences and shelves: Placing these objects around your base will help keep cultists out. You can even leave a small entrance that you line with bear traps to help damage the enemies as they funnel into your base.
    • Sun dial: Tells you how much time is left before sunrise/sunset. This is especially helpful when you’re exploring and need to know how long you have before night falls.
    • Lightning rod: Thunderstorms appear regularly in the game, and a stray bolt of lightning can kill you or destroy the objects in your base. A lightning rod can help protect your base (although you can still be hit by lightning when you’re in the forest). [18]
    • Teleporters: Put one teleporter in your base, then drop a second one anywhere on the map. You can then instantly jump between teleporters—great when you want to explore remote areas but still get home quickly when it’s dark.
    • Torches: Torches light up the area outside of your base, expanding the area where the Deer won’t enter. [19]
    • Ammo crate: Trade scrap metal for ammo. This upgrade is pretty expensive, so it’s usually better to save it for later in the game.

How long does it take to get to Day 100 in “99 Nights?”

PDF download Download Article
  1. Each day/night cycle lasts about 4.5 minutes, so playing the game straight through to 100 days could take as much as 450 minutes (7.5 hours). But a multiplier is added each time you build a bed or rescue one of the missing children—so with a x2 multiplier, your day count would increase by 2 each morning. [20]
    • You can earn up to a x9 multiplier in “99 Nights in the Forest.”
    • Depending on how fast you get all of the multipliers, you could shorten the game to just a couple of hours. Players who speedrun the game (or complete it as fast as possible) may be able to finish in around an hour. [21]

How to Rescue the Children in “99 Nights”

PDF download Download Article
  1. Examine the “Missing Posters” to get the location of each kid. When you look at a poster, you’ll see a red arrow, plus how far away the kid is from your base. Follow the direction of the arrow, then kill the animals protecting the child. Once you’ve killed them all, pick up the key the last one drops and use it to open the locked door. Pick up the kid and put them in your sack, then drop them in your camp to rescue them. [22]
    • Dino Kid: Appears at Campfire Level 2/3. Defeat 5 regular wolves with red collars to get the red key.
    • Kraken kid: Appears at Campfire Level 4. Defeat 4 alpha wolves with blue collars to get the blue key.
    • Squid kid: Appears at Campfire Level 5. Use a rifle to get the yellow key from two bears.
    • Koala kid: Appears at Campfire Level 6. Bring plenty of ammo so you can get the gray key from 6 bears.

Is it better to play “99 Nights” solo or with a team?

PDF download Download Article
  1. There are pros and cons to playing solo versus a team. If you’re playing solo, you have to juggle a lot by yourself—finding food, wood, and craft items. Plus, you have to face combat alone, and you can’t use bandages or medkits to revive yourself if you die. But, you don’t have to worry about communicating with anyone, and you can play the game however you want.
    • On the other hand, the game difficulty is scaled up if you play with a team. That difficulty is based on how many players start the game—so if you’re playing with a team and everyone leaves, you have to play at a higher difficulty. But with a team, it’s easier to split up tasks to get more done in a shorter time.

What class should I play as in “99 Nights”?

PDF download Download Article
  1. There are different classes available to purchase for diamonds (the in-game currency for “99 Nights”), but you don’t really have to have any of them to win. If you have diamonds (you can buy them with Robux or earn them through achievements) and you want to purchase a class upgrade, here are the ones we like best:
    • Scavenger (25 diamonds): Start with additional sack space
    • Cook (40 diamonds): Use seasoning so food fills your hunger bar faster
    • Ranger (70 diamonds): Start with more ammo
    • Lumberjack (70 diamonds): Start with a better axe
    • Alien (100 diamonds): Start with a raygun
    • Assassin (500 diamonds): Start with katana & throwing knives
