The best sleepover activities for you & your bestie
PDF download Download Article

Is your best friend coming over for the night? Are you at a loss as to how to have fun? Just because you have only one friend over doesn't mean the party has to be any less exciting. Sometimes spending time with just one person can be the most meaningful, and it gives you the opportunity to come up with a lot of creative, fun ideas and try them out. Ask your friend what they like to do, be flexible, and you'll have a blast!

Things You Should Know

  • Make your own fun by building a fort, baking dessert, creating art, or throwing a dance party.
  • Or, set up an at-home salon and paint each other's nails, do your hair, or pamper yourselves with face masks.
  • Alternatively, play some games. Play tag, make a scavenger hunt, or have a classic pillow fight.

Being Creative with What's Around You

  1. Grab some blankets, chairs, and clothespins or pillows and begin making an awesome blanket fort in your living room or bedroom. [1]
    • Use the pillows or clothespins to attach your blankets to the chairs.
    • After your fort is complete, throw some pillows and blankets on the floor and crawl underneath it.
    • It could be fun as well to string some lights in your fort.
    • If you'd like, you could make it big enough for both of you and sleep in it.

Make crafts. Ask your parents for extra scraps of fabric, ribbon, glue, beads, buttons, and any other items they have lying around the house. Then, come up with some creative things you can make with your friend! Here are some examples:
    • Friendship bracelets
    • Pasta art (grab some noodles and make words with them!)
    • Paper chain necklaces
    • Wreaths for the door [2]
    • Cards for family or friends

Bake cookies. See what's in your fridge and pantry and mix up some delicious chocolate chip or sugar cookies. Ask your parents for their recipe book or find some great recipes online. [3]

Create a photo booth. Grab some fun props, a camera, and wrapping paper and take lots of great pictures. Tape the wrapping paper to the wall and take pictures of each other with silly props, or set up a camera so that you can both be in the picture.
  5. Silly, pointless and all around goofy videos will keep you up laughing. Get a digital camera, video camera or anything to record and do whatever you want in the movie! Laugh, sing, dance, tell jokes, and have a blast.

Bringing the Salon to Your House

  1. Have an array of nail polish colors set out to choose from and pick one for your nails. Let your friend paint your nails and you can paint hers.
  2. Get out the hair supplies, straightener, curling iron, and hairspray and create a fun hairstyle for your friend. You can go crazy and wild, or fun and cute. Try out different hair styles with each other and take tons of pictures.
  3. Either make your own facial mask or buy one at the store and give each other relaxing facials. Don't forget the cucumbers for the eyes! [4]

Playing Games

  1. Playing a round of truth or dare is a good starting point. Or, you could play murder in the dark , try a round of charades , or play a game of hide and seek .
    • These may be difficult to play with just one other person, so just try them out and if they seem dull or boring move onto something else.
  2. Grab your pillows and begin swinging! Do this in an open area where you won't hit anything and make sure you aren't too rough.
  3. Twister is always a great party game as well as card games like "Old Maid" and "Go Fish." If your parents have an old game of Taboo grab the buzzer and "Buzz" when someone starts falling asleep.

Staying Up All Night

PDF download Download Article
  1. There's never a better time to talk about your lives and share your secrets than when you are tired, hyped up on sugar, and eager to gossip. Grab your sleeping bags and talk with your friend about everything going on in your life.
  2. Make a pact at the beginning of the night that you are going to stay up as long as you can and maybe even make it a competition.
  3. Turn the lights off in your room, crawl into your sleeping bags, grab a flashlight and share your scariest stories. If you get really scared at least you'll have each other!
    • Not every one responds well to scary stories, so make sure your friend is okay with listening to them and won't be too scared.
  4. Look through your phone and find your friend's crush. Call them up and leave a silly voicemail.
    • Be careful that they don't already have your number, because that could be embarrassing.
    • Make sure your friend is okay with making prank calls before you call anyone.
    • Don't call a random number, because that could lead to consequences. Make sure you only call people you know who would think it was funny if they found out it was you.
  5. See what's available on your favorite streaming service (like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus), or check out your own DVD/Blu-Ray collection. Decide on something to watch based on the mood you're feeling.
    • No movie or TV show watch party is complete without some popcorn and snacks. [6]
    • Set the scene by turning off the lights, getting some comfy pillows and blankets, and snuggling up in front of the TV screen.
    • If you always get tired during the movie or show, then keep the light on; it will help to keep you alert and awake.
    • Take your watch party to the next level by having a movie or TV marathon.

I like these, but I and my friend need to be quiet while my parents are asleep. Do you have any quiet fun things to do at a sleepover?
    Community Answer
You could try playing truth or dare quietly, or do each other's nails, hair, makeup, and clothes to fit a certain theme. Then rate the outfits from 1-10.

      Tips

      • Focus on having fun and just enjoying quality time with your best friend.
      • If your friend doesn't want to do something you want to do try not to get offended. Just come up with something else you would both enjoy.
      • Always have junk food on hand. Nothing completes a sleepover quite like pigging out on chips, pizza, soda, and desserts.

The advice in this section is based on the lived experiences of wikiHow readers like you. If you have a helpful tip you’d like to share on wikiHow, please submit it in the field below.
      • One fun activity you can do together is building a fort. Get lots of pillows and blankets. Find two pieces of sturdy furniture and drape your blanket over it. This works best if the blanket is big and thin. Then get some heavy books to weigh it down. If you find a way to extend it with more furniture, you can make your fort bigger. To make the inside of your fort cozy, add pillows, blankets, and even stuffed animals.
      • You can do the whisper challenge. To play this, one of you puts earphones on and listens to music loud enough that you can't hear anything the other person says (the music shouldn't be loud enough to damage your hearing). They say a sentence quietly and you have to guess what they're saying.

      Warnings

      • Some people don't like to stay up late. If your friend wants to go to bed earlier than you, respect their wish. Do not make fun of them, or try to make them stay up. Plus, some people have to take medication that makes them fall asleep early.
      • If caught tee-peeing, egging, or ding-dong-ditching there may be some serious consequences and the sleepover might be over. Because the police may get involved if you get caught, it's probably a good idea just to avoid these pranks altogether.
      • You might avoid the classic sleepover pranks. Your friend may not respond well to them.
      • Don't be too loud. Try to stay quiet so you don't wake up your parent(s).
      • If your friend's parents don't know your parents very well, they may not be comfortable with the sleepover. Try not to take it personally - some parents don't feel comfortable with their child spending the night at the home of people they don't know.
