When you are calculating a decimal number with a whole number, you have to place the whole number before the decimal, to make it simpler add the decimal numbers first 4.9+3.28 is 8.18 now add the whole number ie. 17+8.18, 17 plus 8 is 25 now just add the decimal and numbers before them, 25.18.

Add some zeros after the decimal point of the whole number. That doesn’t change the value of that number. Then proceed as in any other adding problem. For example, 52 + 2.678 = 52.000 + 2.678 = 54.678.
