    Expert Answer
To choose a rifle scope, first assess your typical shooting distances, considering whether you often shoot at 50, 100, or 1000 yards. Factor in the importance of magnification for precision, balancing it with your budget. Ensure the scope is user-friendly once sighted in, with a suitable reticle for your shooting preferences. Investigate durability features, read reviews, and consider brand reputation before making a purchase. If possible, test the scope to ensure it meets your expectations in terms of functionality and clarity.

    Expert Answer
To zero a rifle with a bore sight cartridge, start by ensuring the firearm is unloaded. Insert the bore sight cartridge into the rifle's bore and secure it on a stable surface. Align your sights with the laser dot projected by the bore sight, getting as close to the target as possible without firing. Fine-tune your zero by firing a three-round group, adjusting the scope as needed. Repeat and confirm the zero at different distances for comprehensive accuracy. This method offers an efficient and cost-effective way to align your rifle sights without live ammunition. Always prioritize safety during the process.
  • Question
Why do soldiers place the butts of their rifles against their shoulders when firing?
    Community Answer
It's the proper position for aiming and it stabilizes the recoil.
  • Question
My hands are shaking, what do I do?
    Community Answer
This happens to everyone, especially beginners. Guns are heavy, it's hard for many to hold it steadily. Practice holding your gun in the position you find yourself shaking in. Breathing techniques (3-4-3) can also be used.
  • Question
If I wear glasses does it affect my aim?
    Community Answer
It shouldn't affect your aim, though if you are wearing long-distance or short-distance glasses, it may interfere with your perception of distance.
  • Question
How do the mechanics of aiming work?
    Community Answer
That depends on the type of sight. The most basic sights are iron sights, which consist of two pieces of metal on the front and back of the gun. To aim the firearm, you first align the front sight with the rear sight then move both sights together so that the front sight is also aligned with the target. There are many different types of iron sights, but generally the rear sight has a notch or open circle in it, and the front sight consists of a vertical post which should be centered in the opening of the rear sight to be aligned.
  • Question
How do I shoot a rifle without the stock?
    Community Answer
You don't. This is VERY dangerous and would likely lead to an injury. You should purchase a new stock for the rifle, ensuring that it is actually made for that rifle, before you consider shooting the gun.
  • Question
When shooting down hill do I need to shoot high or low?
    Community Answer
Depends on the incline and movement. Usually you fire a bit high to compensate for bullet drop and then to the side depending on the wind, assuming long range.
  • Question
Can I shoot a rifle with one leg bent?
    Community Answer
If you are referring to prone position, technically yes. Many experts state you should spread your legs and place your feet outward. Many accomplished shooters use different positions. I find when wearing gear, it is more comfortable for me to bend my leg that is on my shooting side, which relieves stress on my back and lower body and makes my position more reactionary. As long as you can keep your sights on target, do not look away from your sights on reloads, and can handle the recoil, if your position is comfortable, then by all means, continue. Many would argue that comfort is equally important. If you are shooting well, then keep doing what works.
  • Question
What does it look like inside the scope?
    Community Answer
Its not too complicated, but it depends on the type of scope you use. There are usually two perpendicular, intersecting lines running throughout the scope. The point where the two lines intersect is where your reticle is. Both axes have certain numerical values that help you compensate for wind (horizontal axis) and distance (vertical axis). Some smaller firearms may have a simpler scope.
  • Question
Should I have one eye or two eyes open?
    Community Answer
    One eye (your dominant eye).
  • Question
How do I adapt my aim when shooting uphill or downhill?
    Community Answer
Generally, if you use a scope (not iron sights), there should be markings on the reticle; if you want to hit a target 100m away, line up the scope on the 100m line.
