  • Question
I'm transgender (born female), and my parents are against the LGBT community. How can I appear more masculine without them knowing I'm transgender?
    Community Answer
You can make it look like you're just going through a tomboy phase. All you have to do is make this phase last for years. Cut your hair if you're allowed, and wear baggy clothing. They probably won't be worried, as long as they think you're a girl. The only bad thing is that you can't change your name or pronouns, but if you don't want them to know you're transgender, this is the only way.
  • Question
How is crying in front of people masculine?
    Julia Child
    Community Answer
It doesn't have to be. Crying is a natural human reaction, and doesn't have to be gendered. Obviously, don't cry all the time or whine and complain about everything, but crying whether you're in front of people or not just means you aren't an emotionless robot. If anything, cry and show your emotion so that you aren't seen as emotionless. Being emotionless isn't masculine, it just makes it a lot harder to reach out to people.
  • Question
How do I hide feelings from people?
    Community Answer
Being masculine is about being in control. This doesn't mean becoming completely devoid of emotion. Show emotion when appropriate.
  • Question
I don't have a strong jawline. Does that make me less masculine?
    Infizity
    Community Answer
The jawline helps you appear more masculine, but it's not a necessity.
  • Question
How can I make my body language more masculine?
    Community Answer
Sit with your legs wide apart while leaning forward and keeping your hands linked -- this is a very classic masculine sitting pose. Also, like this article says, focus on strong eye contact and good posture as well.
  • Question
I'm a girl and I am a tomboy. How do I know if other people accept me as one?
    Community Answer
They probably don't care, and you shouldn't worry about what they think, anyway.
  • Question
What if my breasts are too big to hide?
    Community Answer
You will probably need to wear a binder. Check out the article on How to Bind Your Chest for tips and safety precautions.
  • Question
I want to bind, but am keeping my process from my parents. Therefore, I can't get a binder. Is there any other way that I can make a binder?
    Community Answer
You can try a "double sports bra" method where you wear two sports bras, one worn normally and one backwards.
  • Question
I'm a girl. And I hope to be trans one day. Do you have any other tips on how to be masculine.
    Community Answer
You can't just be trans one day. You either are or aren't. If you mean you want to transition one day, then the first step would be to start referring to yourself as a man, and having people use he/him pronouns. You don't have to look like a man to start living as one. As for extra tips, the most general thing is to buy clothes from the mens' section, get a masculine haircut (if possible, go to a barber and not a hairdresser, so long as they won't be transphobic), and avoid using things meant for women overall.
  • Question
How can I gain respect from the people around me?
    Community Answer
Remember the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. If you want respect, you give others respect. They may appreciate it. Give it time and be consistent.
  • Question
How can I teach myself to get rid of my effeminate hand gestures?
    Community Answer
Try putting your hands in your pockets or crossing your arms. Those are good if you're standing, but if you are sitting, cross your arms or fold your hands together. Please remember that there is nothing wrong with having "effeminate" hand gestures, and you should not try to change yourself to please other people.
  • Question
How can I get a V-shape and make my body look more manly?
    Community Answer
Try going to the gym or working out however you like. Focus on your upper body.
  • Question
Does driving sports car make me more masculine?
    Community Answer
Some people might think so. But what does it matter what others think? Drive the kind of car you like.
  • Question
I use makeup and do all the things suggested, but people don't respect my pronouns. What can I do to be more masculine?
    Community Answer
If it's just shading it should be fine, but if you are doing eyeliner, blush, lipstick, eyebrows, etc., you should stop. Most masculine people don't wear makeup, whatever their gender. Either stop wearing makeup entirely or just tone it down a lot.
  • Question
How can I change my attitude when trying to be more confident?
    Community Answer

  • Question
Will most people make fun of me for being male and not acting masculine?
    Ruby
    Top Answerer
Most people don't care whether or not you are masculine. Of course, there will always be people who aren't satisfied with who you are; some people make fun of people for being too masculine as well. If you want to change, change for yourself, not for what you want others to think of you.
  • Question

    Your_local_enby
    Community Answer
You could wear a beanie if you tuck all your hair into it and it should look pretty cool. You can also ask your parents if you could dread your hair. Also, some men have 'man buns' so you could keep your hair like that.
  • Question
I want to hide my breasts without binding because of how unsafe and painful it can be. What are some other ways I can look more flat-chested?
    Community Answer
Binding isn't always painful and harmful if done properly but there are also other ways to look more flat-chested. For example, you can do things like wear baggy clothing or wear lots of layers. You can also wear two sports bras to compress your chest a bit or make your own binder from an old pair of togs.
