  • Question
How do I not hurt myself?
    Community Answer
Do not practice on hard surfaces where falling could cause injury. When falling on your back, tuck your chin into your chest to prevent hitting your head.
  • Question
Is it more difficult to do this if you are tall? I'm 5' 9" and have been having trouble on the momentum pulling me up part. I get into the squat position for a second, then fall. Any tips/suggestions?
    Felicity Rubiano
    Community Answer
Kick harder. This is one of my problems when practicing kip-ups. Do it on soft ground first, then make it a bit harder as you progress. Height isn't a problem for parkour. Just practice, and be patient.
  • Question
I have the feet right, but I can't push myself up. How do I do that?
    Community Answer
You could try practicing backbends from a standing position to strengthen your core. Strengthening your arms, shoulders, and upper back helps too. Make sure to create enough momentum and do it in a swift, powerful movement.
  • Question
My hands hurt while pushing the body upwards. Can you suggest some exercises to help my wrist to push down properly and efficiently?
    Community Answer
You should try doing bridges every once in a while. The position for a bridge is similar to step 6 in the article.
  • Question
Do I have to be able to do a back bend to do this?
    Community Answer
You need some of the flexibility and strength that a back bridge requires. I'd recommend having at least a partial bridge before practicing this move.

    Community Answer
When you have your legs over your chest, kick them straight up. Speed is crucial. Try and make it one motion. Then, as soon as you feel upwards momentum, push downwards with your hands. REALLY push. You're moving from a prone position upwards and forwards. Land in a squat. This article has good advice on that.

    Community Answer
You're not doing anything wrong, you're just not flexible enough yet. Stretch frequently to gain flexibility.
  • Question
What do I do if my kicks are not pushing me up when doing a kick up?
    Community Answer
You are not pulling you kicks in powerfully enough. If you don't have the strength to do it yet, practice laying on your back and pulling your knees to your chin quickly to help them strengthen up. After you have the strength, work on speed. After you have both down, you will find it easier to push yourself up.
  • Question
When I do a kick up, I always land on my back. What might be causing this?
    Community Answer
Make sure to push up right as you feel your body starting to go back down, and then really push hard and bring your feet down fast.
  • Question
How do I do a kip up if pushing as hard as possible doesn't work?
    Community Answer
Record yourself and compare yourself to someone who's mastered a kip up. Slow down the video to see your moves step by step.
  • Question
When I do if I can't get up when doing a kip up face down?
    Community Answer
Practice is key. When practicing, make sure you are doing the technique correctly. If you can't push up with your arms, strengthen them. Push-ups are helpful to help you get enough strength to hold your own body weight.
  • Question
I can't push up off the ground. How can I do that?
    Community Answer
Just kick up harder. If that doesn't work as well, try to do more push ups to make your arms stronger. A easy push up workout is to do three sets of push ups to fatigue, with a minute rest in between.
  • Question
I keep falling down from the squat, why does that happen?
    Community Answer
You might not be putting your feet down fast enough. Try to work on extending your legs while on your back and increase speed. If that doesn't work, it might be your balance.
  • Question

    James Oscar
    Community Answer
Your triceps should be strong, so you can push yourself up to make the kip up explosive.

Just before you feel like you're going to touch the ground, tuck in your legs as much as you can to land in a squat.
