  • Question
What is the Minecraft Launcher, and how can I use it?
    Rue Isabelle
    Community Answer
In Java Edition, the Minecraft Launcher is the window you must open before selecting play. The layout of the launcher varies by version, but it is basically a hub from which you can determine the most basic settings of how Minecraft runs, including which update of Minecraft to use and where to store the saved world's from the game. You can also save and rename launchers so that you can essentially run Minecraft several different ways from the same app, and have different worlds saved in different launchers. In Bedrock Edition, no such launcher exists.
  • Question
What do I do if I downloaded and extracted a map, dragging it into saves, but it isn't the map when I open it, but some kind of generic Minecraft world instead?

Either you did it improperly or pressed the wrong file. Go into the “Saves” and make sure you didn’t press the wrong file or did it improperly.
  • Question
Where is the save button when downloading Minecraft maps?

It's just a folder, it should be inside of your .minecraft folder. Within the folder should be multiple saves (with the names of your single-player worlds). If you still can't find it, try just searching in your files for it.

Changing launcher settings is no longer required. Just find your .minecraft folder (in %appdata%) and put your map files into the save folder.
