Tell them all the things they are great at, but also let them know that it's okay to be nervous about tests/exams. Be encouraging and uplifting. Show them that even if they struggle in school, you're their biggest fan. Children need security and support. They might be nervous about homework because they didn't study well enough. If this is the case, offer to make time with them to sit down and look over the material. When they see how well they do with you, they may be more confident to try it independently.

Your child already loves something he does. Use this to your advantage. Try relating his school performance to sports. Tell him that, to be a professional in his favorite sport, he'll have to do well in school, because he'll need to get into a good college to further his career. Make sure to show the same appreciation of his academic achievements as you do his achievements in sports. This will reinforce that school is just as important to you as athletics, and will make him more likely to want to learn.

How do I get my child who is constantly busy with sports to love school as much as sports?

Offer your child a "trophy", or reward. When your child receives a medal or trophy for his/her team, they will certainly be happy about that. Give them a treat once in a while (for example, ice cream) if they do well in school. Have some of his notebooks or pencils be sport themed. When he struggles with homework, make it a game just like a sport. Every time he answers a question right or without your help, give him a point. If he doesn't, don't give him/her a point. If he reaches a certain number of points gained (e.g. 10 or 15), have him not have to load the dishwasher that night or give him an extra 20 minutes of screen time.
