  • Question
I want to throw an end-of-school summer party, but I don't want too few or too many people there. What should l do?
    Tom De Backer

First, determine the exact max number of people you want. This depends on many factors: budget, capacity of the location, how many people you can keep in line, etc. Next, make a new list of all the people you would hope to see there, ignoring your max for a moment. Next, compare the two numbers. If you have fewer than the max, you're fine. If you have more, you'll have to cut some people. Send out personal invitations, by name, so they know they can't just bring more people. If you feel bad for cutting some people, consider a pre-party, or an after-party at a bar where everyone is welcome and pays their own way.
  • Question
I want to throw a party for the people at my school, but I'm not sure what to do, since I want a lot of people there. What do I put in the invitation to make sure they come?
    Community Answer
If you want your party to be attended by a lot of people, make the invitation on Facebook or your social media accounts. You don't have to put anything special into the invitation, except for the date, time, theme (optional) etc.
  • Question
I want to have a small party with only three people because we can’t fit more than that in the car, but I have six friends that I want to invite. How do I chose among them all?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Instead of choosing three of six, find a way to invite all six. Ask one of them to drive too, so they can take the others that don't fit in your car. If you don't want to invite one or two of them because you don't like them, that's another thing. But "we can only fit three" is a reason I wouldn't like to hear as to why I was not invited.

  • Question
How do I host an "open to the public" party for a charity?
    Community Answer
First, find a well-known location to host the party. It could be at a public park under a shelter, for example. Have some pamphlets there explaining why your charity is so important to you and others. Give people a few chances to donate during the party, and set up raffles that people can participate in to raise more money. You may have to go around with some signs or post online to let people know about your event as well.

  • Question
My sister is having a party (10th) she invited 3 for friends and I need to host it, but I don’t know how to keep 9 year olds from getting bored, as they don’t like to play games either. What do I do?
    Blue J
    Community Answer
They will want to do some sort of activity. Talk to your sister and see what they like to do, or contact her friends and talk to them and see what they like to do. You can always try some generic things, maybe put some Just Dance on (You can use Just Dance Now) or put a quiz on a screen for them to play. Try to find something they like, and go with it.
  • Question
Is it OK to invite my ex, who I miss, to my party?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
You can do what you like, it's your party. And it's also up to your ex to accept your invitation, so it's not just up to you alone. However, I would generally advise against this. It can make things awkward. You could get into a fight, you could be confronted with your own unprocessed feelings, and other guests may find it weird, too. Most of all, if it's your ex, that means it's over. It helps to make a clean break, and to keep socially seeing each other contradicts that. Finally, 'because you miss' an ex is not a good reason. If you two are past it and on speaking terms, then sure, invite your ex. If you still have issues, then don't.
