  • Question
If I drive my car 100 km per hour, can I expect good mileage?
    Community Answer
You can expect a pretty good mileage, although usually the best mileage can be achieved at around 80km/h.
  • Question
Is it possible to get good gas mileage in a Jeep Wrangler?
    Community Answer
You can get probably about 26 MPG going 45-55 MPH while drafting roughly 50 feet behind a semi-truck and constantly moving. Otherwise, if you are in a city environment or cruise on the freeway at 80 MPH, you'll be lucky to get more than 18 MPG.
  • Question
What is the sweet speed of Toyota Avanza auto gear car?
    Community Answer
As mentioned, while driving what at what speed your RPM is low. The level of RPM at which the speed is more, but RPM is less, is the "Sweet Speed."
  • Question
How do I adjust the fuel mixture of the carburetor of a 1987 Ford Falcon?
    Community Answer
Turn the carburetor 3/4 turn clockwise, and tighten the fuel pump hose to adjust.
  • Question
Is adding an additive to gas tanks to clean a fuel injection system an advantage?
    Community Answer
Strictly a sales gimmick, they don't do anything but some have even been found to do the opposite. Buyer beware.
  • Question
How do I lower the fuel consumption in a 1995 Nissan Laurel?
    Community Answer
Don't drive fast, check tires/oil/water regularly. Don't carry heavy unnecessary weight. A mechanic can fine tune your car so it's more prepared and efficient.
  • Question
How do I find out if my car is getting the best fuel mileage possible?
    Community Answer
If the car doesn't have a miles-per-gallon gauge, reset your trip mileage odometer each time you fill up with gas. Note how many gallons you fill up with each time, and once that tank is empty, note the trip mileage on the odometer. Then just divide your trip mileage by the gallons you filled up with for that tank, to calculate your miles per gallon for that tank. (If you don't have a trip mileage option on your odometer, you can also just calculate the difference between the total mileage on your odometer between gas fill-ups.) Example: you fill up with 12 gallons, and drive 328 miles on that tank, so 328 / 12 = 27.3 miles per gallon. Try to keep track of which gasoline and types of driving make for the most efficient MPG.
  • Question
How can I drive the vehicle at high speed with better mileage?
    Community Answer
You can improve your mileage at higher speeds by re-gearing the car, so you're at lower rpms at higher speeds. Also, newer cars can get better gas mileage.
  • Question
How do I improve the fuel mileage on a car that is using double the gas it used to use?
    Community Answer
Find out what has happened. Excess fuel usage could be as simple as a dirty air filter, bad timing (for older Kettering ignition system engines), or as bad as low compression of cylinders.
  • Question
Is it possible to get good fuel economy in a Jeep Wrangler?
    Community Answer
If you're thinking 30 or more miles per gallon, probably not. The best way to get the best possible economy is to have a correctly maintained and tuned engine, and keep the tire pressures up.
  • Question
In a Toyota Innova can we add a diesel additive when filling up the gas? Will it really clean the engine if we do that every time?
    Community Answer
A fuel additive wont literally clean it, but it will increase fuel economy and horsepower.
  • Question
If I coast downhill at 70 mph with the engine idling, does this use less petrol that if I'm in gear with my foot off the accelerator?
    Community Answer
It is best not to "coast" (if you mean throwing the transmission into neutral), it renders emergency maneuvers much more unpredictable. If that is not enough of a reason, newer fuel injected cars with an engine control module will cut fuel injection on their own once the car's momentum can maintain it above a certain rpm (say 1200( with your foot off the gas pedal. So it is dangerous AND it burns more gas to coast (on most newer fuel injected vehicles).
  • Question
How do I increase MPG if my automatic car doesn't have overdrive?
    Community Answer
Use higher gears (smaller numerically) in differential or go to a taller tire. Keep the car tuned up and tires properly inflated and drive at a slower speed.
  • Question
What is the average mileage for 4 cylinder SUV?
    Community Answer
It depends on how you maintain your vehicle. I would say 100,000 in most cases for a 4 cylinder vehicle.
  • Question
When going downhill, should I turn O/D off and stay on D, or transfer to lower gears?
    Community Answer
You should in fact transfer to a higher gear. This will give you better fuel efficiency.
  • Question
What are important tools to carry in a car at all times?
    Community Answer
A wheel nut brace and vehicle jack. I also carry assorted screwdrivers and a basic set of spanners, pliers, and cutters. It's also good to carry insulating tape and wire. Check your vehicle fuses and globes and carry suitable spares.
