  • Question
Is Russian or Spanish easier to learn for an English speaker?
    Community Answer
Spanish would probably be easier, but it really depends on the individual.
  • Question
Is learning both Spanish and Japanese a good idea? Japanese is a lot easier for me even though I'm a native English speaker.
    Community Answer
Yes! I am doing the same and I feel the same way. Since the languages are so different, it’s not hard to differentiate between the two, as long as you stay on top of your lessons you should be fine.
  • Question
Are Spanish and French good to learn at the same time?
    Community Answer
Since both are Romance languages, it might not be a good idea since they are very similar and you could confuse many words. It's better to choose languages from different families, in your case, French or Spanish along with a language like Arabic, Finnish, Greek, Korean, Russian, Tagalog, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, or any other language that isn't of the same family.
  • Question
Say if i was wanting to learn Greek, French, and after those, Spanish. Is this a good idea?
    Kassy
    Community Answer
There is no limit to how many languages you can learn at once. Try using Duolingo. Start with Esperanto, then pick the language you want to learn more and learn it until you can speak a fair amount even if it is basic and broken. Then learn the other language with it. This technique can be very helpful for learning languages and maybe even becoming a polyglot.
  • Question
What would be a resonable amount of languages to learn at once?
    Community Answer
No more than two. If you are learning a language, it could easily get mixed up with other languages.
  • Question
I'm currently learning German and my mom wants me to learn Spanish as well, will that make it more difficult?
    Community Answer
It probably will, yes. I would focus on one or the other for now. You could work on studying German while still learning some Spanish vocabulary, but it would be best to wait until you're pretty fluent in one before moving on to the next.
  • Question
What languages are good to learn at the same time?
    Community Answer
Learn two languages that are very different, so you don't get them mixed up. If it helps, you can learn two similar languages and use your knowledge of each to help you understand the other.
  • Question
Is it good if I learn Russian and Polish at the same time?
    Community Answer
If you are good with languages, that would be fine. Just be aware that Russian and Polish sound slightly similar and you might get them confused. One example of how this could get tricky is that the Russian word, "запомни", and the Polish word, "zapomnij", sound almost exactly alike, but they are false friends. The Russian one means "remember" and the Polish one means "forget". Then again, many languages have false friends, just be aware of them. Keep your learning and writing in separate places to avoid confusion. Perhaps learn them on different days.
  • Question
How do I learn Russian and other languages together?
    Community Answer
Make sure you're learning Russian and something from another language family. It would be a good idea to learn Spanish or French alongside Russian because there are a lot of cognates, and also because some of the Russian vocabulary comes from French.
  • Question
Which language would be easier, Japanese, Chinese or Korean?

    Community Answer
Chinese is often said to be the most difficult and from personal experience with learning Chinese I can say that it indeed is a lot of work and time that you'll have to invest. Japanese is also one of the more difficult languages in the world. In my opinion it is easier in the beginning, if you start with hiragana. The kanji characters are mostly similar to Chinese ones cause they derive from it. So if you know Chinese already, Japanese might be easier to learn. Everything depends on how you study and what is harder or more easy to you though. In Chinese you will have relatively easy grammar but a lot of characters to learn by hard. In Korean, grammar is quite complex but it has fewer characters.
  • Question
Is it all right to learn French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese Mandarin at the same time on Duolingo?
    Rainy
    Top Answerer
Definitely! However, be careful with learning Spanish, French, and Portuguese all together. They're very similar and you may get their words mixed up.
  • Question
Does it take more time to learn two languages at once, rather than one language at a time?
    Rainy
    Top Answerer
Yes, it will take about twice as long to master two languages as it will to master only one. But the rewards will also be twice as great!
