  • Question
I'm slightly confused on how prayer journals work. Do I still pray, or is the journal enough? And how does God hear the prayers if they're only written?
    Elizabeth White
    Community Answer
You can decide this on your own! Some people just write it, and some people (like me) write it and then pray. The choice is yours. Always assume that God is all powerful and all-knowing. He will know your prayers if you write them down.
  • Question
Is it okay to write down my prayers in a composition notebook?

Of course! That's part of journaling as well. If you don't want to use a notebook, use a computer or your phone.

  • Question
I'm confused on what to write for my journal entry. What would you write?
    Community Answer
Write down what's on your mind, e.g., "Today, my prayer was answered!" or "I met a friend who is in need/I met someone on the street who looks like they're suffering. I need to remember to pray for them." Write the words "Prayer List" on a page and come back to it when you suddenly think of something to pray for. You can also write down your prayers.
  • Question
What are some prayers for healing my body, mind, and spirit?
    Community Answer
There are no specific words that are better than others. God is like your best friend, and you're always surrounded by angels and guides. All you have to do is talk out loud to them in the same way that you would a good friend, and they hear you.

  • Question
I don't exactly know how to pray or how to even began my journal. How do I even begin?
    Community Answer
If you don't know how to pray, then it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matters is letting your feelings out while you pray. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to pray because it's all very personal. You're probably not going to show your journal to anyone, so don't worry about it all.
  • Question
Do I need to pray for everything at the same time?
    Community Answer
No, you may pray for whatever you wish for at a given time.
  • Question
How often am I supposed to pray?
    Community Answer
Pray whenever you feel that you should. For some people, that's once a week, for others, it's any time of the day or night. If thoughts of praying arise in your heart or mind, then pray. When considering prayer, ask yourself this, "What can I thank God for and what may I ask of Him?" He wants to hear your voice and know that you care.
  • Question
Is it okay to pray for something, say a new job, by say January 2019? Is it okay to include dates like this in the prayer?
    Community Answer
There is nothing wrong with including dates and/or being as specific as you need/want to be in your prayer, you just have to remember that God has his own plan and timeline of events, so if it doesn't happen for you by, say, January, that doesn't mean God isn't listening to your prayers.
  • Question
What is the best format for writing a prayer journal?
    Community Answer
Any format is great! God is delighted to hear from his children no matter what the format. You can write it just like you pray in your head/out loud, you can make lists of people and things to pray for, you can write songs or poems, you can vent, doodle, scrapbook, collage, anything! Any way that you feel you can best connect with God is perfect, because God hears all prayers (Jeremiah 29:12-13).

  • Question
How do I deal with inconsistency when making a prayer journal?
    Community Answer
Don't put too much pressure on yourself, but know that the more time spent in prayer, the deeper your relationship with God will become. Attempt to pray daily. It's wonderful if you can stop everything, go into a room or closet or just be alone and pray, even for just 5 minutes. But even if you are driving, walking, anything, you can take a few moments to give thanks and praise to God. The more you do it, the more you will want to do it.
  • Question
What am I supposed to say at the beginning of my prayer request?

At the beginning of your prayer, you can say anything you like; such as, “Dear Heavenly Father,” or “Hello, God.” and then continue to talk to God as if He is your best friend.
  • Question
What should I avoid when I pray?
    Community Answer
You can say whatever you would like to God, as if He were your best friend. Keep in mind to not say anything disrespectful and make sure to pray not only for yourself, but to your friends or family too.
