  • Question
Why is The Washington Post considered conservative? It's liberal.
    Jeremy Johnson
    Community Answer
The Washington Post used to be more conservative-leaning, but has begun to lean over to the left.
  • Question
How do I determine where I stand when I agree with policies of the right and left?
    Community Answer
If you agree with about an equal number of policies on each side, you may just be a moderate/independent (or potentially, libertarian). Not everyone falls neatly into one or the other 'wing'. However, you can think about which issues are most important to you and see if your views on those major issues tend to align more with the right or left. Then you could identify as, e.g., mainly left-wing but with some right-wing views.
  • Question
Can a person fall in the middle between the two parties?
    Community Answer
Yes, typically you're called an "independent".
  • Question
What should I do if my beliefs are right wing and my friend is left wing?
    Kin Wa Li
    Community Answer
Just deal with it. Political ideology should not affect friendship. If you do not want to risk your friendship, try not to discuss politics with him/her.
  • Question

  • Question
What political parties are in North Korea?
    Curtis Fairgrieve

The Korean Worker's Party is the sole political party in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). However, only a descendant of Kim Il-sung could serve as Supreme Leader.
  • Question
What if I disagree with both the left and the right?
    Community Answer
Consider alternative parties; even though they probably will never win, you can still vote for them to prove a point.
  • Question
What if you live in Britain? Then which parties are right and left wing?

Labour to the left, Conservatives to the right. Liberal Democrats in the middle. The Greens are far left. And the Scottish National Party (SNP) is a major party in Scotland, which is a left-wing party.
  • Question
Can I run for US president even if I was not born in the US?
    Community Answer
No, you may not run for US president if you are not a US citizen by birth.
  • Question
In an election, can you call an independent candidate really independent when you see they have an extreme view (right or left - doesn't matter) on certain matters in politics?
    Community Answer
The term "independent" in politics simply means that they are not part of one of the main parties in the system. If they do not affiliate themselves with a party, they are independent. That is all the term signifies.
  • Question
If I don't like rich people, certain faiths, refugees, and immigrants, does that mean I am a fascist?
    Community Answer
No, Fascism is the furthest on the right-wing scale but nowadays is just misused frequently (especially by leftists) for someone with 'extreme' views. Fascists would traditionally support the rich whereas a leftist would likely dislike them and expect a 'fairer' share of wealth distribution among the poor. A dislike of refugees etc., is supposedly right-wing. You seem to be someone who dislikes whole slabs of people due to an inability to understand that grouping people together is a form of generalized fallacious thinking that leaves you constantly in fear and on edge. Try informing yourself better about the problems and interests of people before assuming the worst.
  • Question
    Can I be the president?
    Curtis Fairgrieve
    Community Answer
To become President of the United States you must be at least 35 years of age, be a natural-born US citizen and have lived in the United States for fourteen continuous years.
  • Question
How can I be independent in politics?
    Community Answer
Independent just means you aren't in a particular party.
  • Question
Fascism is based around being authoritarian. Authoritarians are based around government control. The left wing is about government power and control, making fascism a left-wing power. So then, why do people say fascism is right-wing?
    Community Answer
Authoritarianism can occur at either extreme, left-wing or right-wing, but fascism is specifically a term for right-wing authoritarianism. Today, fascism is best remembered as the ruling party in Mussolini's Italy or Germany's Nazi party under Hitler. Despite the right's usual desire to keep government small, at times, other right-wing ideals - like pushing certain moral or religious values, or the strong tendency toward nationalism, racial 'purity', etc. that tends to appear most often in the right wing - can occasionally supersede that particular one, and the government may convince itself and its people that the cause it's pursuing is worth being tyrannical in the name of. Keep in mind, also, that the clean-cut picture of the left vs. right that this article presents is a bit of an idealized oversimplification and in reality, both sides have their own ways in which they support more control/restrictiveness in certain areas.
  • Question
Which parties are left or right wing in Canada?

  • Question
I'm a Democratic Socialist. I agree with the teachings of Karl Marx and I believe that capitalism is unethical. Who do I vote for, and how do I convince others?
    Community Answer
In the US, there are very few socialist, or even social democratic candidates, so the closest you will find is probably someone like Bernie Sanders of the Democratic Party. You won't likely be able to change other people's beliefs, so only discuss yours if you are asked.
  • Question
What if I have mixed qualities from both right and left wing, how should i call myself?
    Galasy4969
    Top Answerer
I would personally avoid identifying yourself solely on the spectrum. Most Iowa Republicans are major supporters of wind energy and soil conservation. Call yourself 'a person with an individual worldview.'
