  • Question
What is the best why to aim if you are right handed but left eye dominant?
    SovjetOnion
    Community Answer
The claim that you should only aim with your dominant eye is totally false. You have to keep both eyes open. There is not a single professional player that player with an eye closed. It's not how it's learned. The arm you choose to throw with, is up to you.
  • Question
If I'm blind in my right eye, can I play darts?
    Community Answer
Yes, you can. You will learn to compensate for your eye issues over time.
  • Question
When I throw my darts they always go left of the target. What is wrong?
    Community Answer
If you are right handed my first guess is that your elbow and forearm are not plumb. When I find I am not scoring where I'm looking I start at my feet and work my way up with good base and fundamentals.
  • Question
When holding the dart, at what point of balance should I hold the front/back center?
    Community Answer
You should have a bit more weight on your front foot, but never lift up your back one.
  • Question
Can I lower my elbow without losing precision when throwing darts?
    Community Answer
To ensure consistency, never lower your elbow.
  • Question
I throw right handed, but my left eye is dominant. Is that wrong?
    Community Answer
The claim that you should only aim with your dominant eye is totally false. You have to keep both eyes open. There is not a single professional player that plays with an eye closed. It's not how it's learned. You can throw with whichever arm works best for you.
  • Question
How far left or right can I move on the throw line?
    Community Answer
You can move as far left or right as you want without breaking the plane of the line. It isn’t curved like a 3-point line in basketball, so the farther you move to the side, the farther away from your target you will get.
  • Question
Does height matter if I want to get a good score on the board? I am short.
    Community Answer
Some very short players (often ladies) I have played against don't ever aim for the 20s and try to do the bulk of their scoring from the T19 at the bottom of the board.
  • Question
Is it okay to lower my hand to my eye level when throwing darts?
    Community Answer
Your hand should be around eye level when throwing a dart; elbow at a 90-degree angle, then draw the dart back to eye level when aiming.
  • Question
I like to move my feet and shift my body with the dart throw so that I end up facing the other way afterward. Is this legal in an actual game?
    Community Answer
As long as you don't cross the throw line, yes. Just be careful so that it doesn't affect your aim.
  • Question
Where is the sweet spot on the dart?
    Community Answer
Although debatable, much like a woman, the sweet spot is the chest area of the dart.
  • Question
Should I put spin on a dart when throwing it?
    Mark Smith
    Community Answer
If you are trying to put spin on your dart, it means you are rolling the dart off your middle finger, which is not your most accurate style of throwing. Putting spin on the dart also affects the aerodynamics of the flight, as the flight has to work harder to cut through the air. While it may appear that the dart has some spin as you throw, it is minor and probably does not affect speed or accuracy.
  • Question
Why do my darts face downward when I throw them?
    Community Answer
Your dart is likely back heavy (at the flight end) or you may be holding the dart too close to the tip/front. I sometimes put a lighter and shorter shaft on the barrel and a lighter flight to make the dart more front heavy. You can buy front weighted darts if you can't fix your darts to fly with the appropriate arc. Hold the dart just behind the center of gravity and see if that helps.
  • Question
What's the right angle to throw darts?
    Community Answer
Throw the dart at a 90 degree angle, with your hand shaped like an L. You also need goo quality (expensive) darts to ensure top accuracy.
  • Question
How do I throw darts if I am right handed but my left leg and eye are dominant?
    Community Answer
Just stand like a right player. Your hand is more important. Your legs will adjust soon. Eye dominance isn't even relevant since you should use both eyes.
  • Question
Does my upper arm need to be parallel to the floor for all throws?
    Community Answer
Yes, it does. In order to have a straight and accurate throw, your arm should be parallel with the ground at all times.
  • Question
How do I come up with a good darts nickname?
    Community Answer
You can try to shorten your surname or last name into something catchy. Or, get some idea’s from your favourite idol/music. Or, think about a funny quirk you might have.
  • Question
Is the bull’s eye on all dartboards made from just solid wood and not the regular dartboard material?
    Community Answer
Normally it’s the same material as everything else on the board. The bull’s eye isn’t an exception.
  • Question
A problem has crept into my throw. It is much like a slice in golf. My darts will be okay on the elevation but tend to move 2 to 3 inches to the right. Changing grips, stances, throws, etc has not fixed it. What should I do?
    Grace Ballesteros
    Community Answer
Maybe study how the dart moves when you throw, then try to compensate for the motion and angle of the dart to hit the dartboard where you want to.
