A needle threader is a small metal device that has a wider, wire-like opening, and it's used to help you thread a needle.

A needle threader is helpful if your thread is on the thicker side, if it keeps unraveling, or you have poor vision or hand/eye coordination.

Insert the needle threader into the eye of the needle, put the end of your thread through, and gently pull it through the eye of the needle, leaving only the thread looped through.
  • Question
My threader just broke, but it came with other types of threaders that look like hooks. How do I use it?
    T. Chinsen

The hooks do the same thing as the wire threader. It is more common to use the hooks for yarn or multiple strands of embroidery floss. The tip of the hook is placed into the eye of the needle, and the thread is placed around the hook. Pull the thread-loaded hook through the eye of the needle. The hook will pass through the eye of embroidery and tapestry needles. (They may be too large for standard sewing needles or quilting needles with small eyes.)
