How do you tell if eggs are bad?
I need eggs for a recipe, the ones in my fridge have been there have been there for I don't even know how long. It looks like I'm only a little bit past the "best by" date, but I don't want to risk using bad eggs and getting sick from it. Is there any way to check an egg without cracking it open? About how long are eggs really
good for?

If you want to test if eggs are still good without cracking them, you can put them in water and see if they float - if they float, that's a sign they are bad.
There are also signs once the egg is cracked. You'll notice a smell when you crack it and you may see some red color inside.

Easiest way to check eggs is a float test imo. Just fill a glass with water and drop an egg in. If the egg sinks or stands vertically on the bottom of the glass, then it's still good and safe to eat. If the egg is older, then gases build up up inside and cause the egg to float at the surface.
If you've already cracked the egg, then you'll probably notice a bad odor or a slightly discolored yolk.

If you haven't cracked the egg yet, hold it up to your ear and shake it. If you hear sloshing, it's bad.
If you crack open the egg and it stinks and the yolk is droopy and the whites are runny, it's bad.
