To clean dust or lint out of a hairbrush, first remove any hair using the end of a comb. Then soak the brush in warm water with a bit of clarifying shampoo, and scrub between the bristles. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry bristle-side down.

If you need to clean a lot of hairbrush lint, try picking it out with a pair of tweezers before washing or soaking it. That way, the soapy water can get a little deeper into the bristles and your brush will look a lot cleaner.

If you need to clean a boar bristle brush, then I'd start by using a comb on the bristles to remove all of the loose hair and lint from them. After that, I recommend soaking the bristles for 10 minutes in hot water mixed with a squirt of shampoo. After that, just rinse it out and let it dry before brushing your hair again.

The best thing you can do to properly clean a hairbrush is wash it in soapy water. Fill a sink or small container with warm water and add a squirt of dish soap (I use Dawn personally). Let it soak for just a couple of minutes and then scrub the bristles with a spare dish brush you have. All the lint, hair, and dirt should disappear pretty quickly.
