Create an entrance to a secret layer
PDF download Download Article

Do you want to create a secret room in Minecraft? Maybe you want your own Batcave? Or perhaps you want to create a secret volcano layer to carry out all your diabolical plans? Or maybe you just want a hidden chamber to store all your treasures and goodies . Luckily, there are a number of ways to create a secret hidden entrance in Minecraft. This wikiHow article teaches you how to make secret doors in Minecraft Bedrock or Java.

Building a Hidden Door

Place a 4x4 array of sticky pistons to the side of the entrance way. Place another column of sticky pistons along with the blocks that cover the entrance way in front of that array. You’ll need to wire all the sticky pistons with redstone dust and a redstone repeater. Connect the circuit to an activation lever.

Building a Simple Hidden Door

  1. 1
Remove a 1x2 space in a solid wall. This will be the space you pass through to get to the hidden room.
  2. 2
Place two signs in the entrance way. Place the signs perpendicular to the wall inside the entrance way on top and bottom. The signs don’t need to say anything. The signs are there to take up space in the entrance way, but are small enough to allow the player to pass through.

Place a painting over the entrance way. The signs will allow you to place a large painting that covers the entrance way and obscures it. The player will be able to walk through the painting into the secret room behind it. This is the simplest way to create a hidden door.

Creating Piston Door

  1. 1
Remove a 1x2 space in a solid wall. This will be the space you pass through to get to the hidden room.
    • Make sure you have enough space behind the entrance way to build all the mechanical stuff. You will need at least 2 blocks of free space behind the entrance way, 3 blocks of free space to the right, 2 blocks of free space to the right, and a ceiling that is at least 2 blocks above the entrance way.
  2. 2
Place two solid blocks with redstone dust on top of three blocks to the right. When you enter the entrance way, turn and face right. Place two solid blocks (any solid block type) in a row, three blocks from the entrance way. Then place redstone dust on top of both blocks.
  3. 3
Place two more blocks one space above. Do not place these blocks directly on top of the blocks you just laid; place them one space above.
  4. 4
Place four sticky pistons in front of the blocks. After placing the solid blocks with redstone dust on top of them, place two sticky pistons in front of the solid blocks, pointing right. Then place two more sticky pistons on top of those sticky pistons.
  5. 5
Place a redstone repeater on top of the sticky piston. Jump up and place a redstone repeater on top of the sticky piston that is closest to the entrance way. Then right-click it (or left trigger button on game consoles) three times to set it to four ticks.
  6. 6
Place two more sticky pistons in front of the other back row of sticky pistons. These sticky pistons should be facing the front in the direction of the entrance. Stack them on top of each other directly in front of the back column of the 4x4 array sticky pistons you already made. You should now have an L-shape of sticky pistons with 4x4 pistons facing to the right, and 1x2 sticking pistons facing to the front.
  7. 7
Place the entrance way blocks in front of the pistons. There should be an empty space for two blocks next to all the pistons. Place whatever block you want the entrance way to be made out of in that space.
    • You can use any movable block that isn’t sticky. You cannot make a secret door out of obsidian, bedrock, or slime.
  8. 8
Place three solid blocks above the entrance way. One solid block should go above the entrance way blocks you just placed. Then place two blocks directly above the entrance way in a row. Place redstone dust on top of all the solid blocks.
    • You may need to build a ladder to reach the top of the blocks or place a temporary block to stand on.
    • The redstone dust above the entrance way is the input that activates the door. Any lever or mechanism you want to use to activate the door must be connected to the redstone blocks above the entrance way.
  9. 9
Place a redstone torch on the side of the solid block. A redstone torch should be placed on the left side of the block directly in front of the solid block directly above the entrance way.
  10. 10
Place another solid block with redstone on top of it. This block should be placed to the right of the redstone torch you just placed and one block down (not directly under it). You should see the redstone light up when you place it on top of the block.
  11. 11
Place a redstone torch on the block you just placed. This redstone torch should be placed behind the block, facing away from the entrance way.
  12. 12
Place redstone just below the redstone torch. Place redstone on the floor just below the redstone torch you just placed. This will be used to activate the bottom piston that pushes the entrance blocks in place.
  13. 13
Place a block to the right of the redstone. This is needed to complete the circuit. You can place any block next to the redstone spot you just laid on the ground. You can also just fill in the wall to the left of the entrance way. This will create a neat passageway behind the entrance.
  14. 14
Place a button or lever two blocks above the door. This will be placed directly in front of the redstone above the entrance way. This lever will be used to activate the hidden door. [1]
    • If you want to place the lever or button in another location, you will need to make sure you connect it to the redstone above the doorway, but make sure it doesn’t connect to the redstone to the right of the door, or this will short it.
    • You may want to add a lever on the inside of the chamber as well as the outside.
