Avoid makeup mistakes like not cleaning and moisturizing the skin before applying makeup and not blending the foundation well. Do not use the wrong shade of foundation, have an unflattering eyebrow shape, or fill the brows too dark. Avoid applying the blush too low, overusing mascara on lower lashes, and using too much makeup product.

For daily use, it is better to use a sunscreen product with at least SPF 30. A sunscreen product with at least SPF 50 is more suitable for prolonged use, swimming, or sweaty people. Physical sunscreen is preferable because it blocks the full spectrum of rays. While a chemical sunscreen only blocks a limited range and is not suitable for people with sensitive skin.

I would recommend using a natural BB cream or a light foundation that has SPF and moisturizing agents for your face. If you want to go a little bit heavier, you can add a powder over your BB cream. Then, I would add mascara and a light blush.
  • Question
I have naturally rosy (and very obvious) cheeks. Do I still have to wear blush? Should I try to cover it up and then put on blush?
    Community Answer
If your cheeks are naturally rosy, there is no need to add blush. Enjoy what nature has graced you with and be happy that that is one less makeup item you need to use. Only cover it up if you are aiming for a toned down look or to change your look; that's not really something to worry about in middle school though.
  • Question
What kind of makeup should I buy if I am in middle school?
    Community Answer
Affordable and well known makeup. Usually the drugstore makeup brands are good quality and an affordable price. Avoid using dollar store items as you cannot be certain they've been adequately tested for young skin. Also avoid high end makeup, as it isn't a good thing to spend all your money on at your age and many such products are no better than their cheaper cousins in the drugstore. Get some direct advice from the beauty counter retailer who may even do a makeover on you if you ask nicely.
  • Question
How do I put on eyeshadow?
    Community Answer
You'll find this article very helpful: How to Apply Eyeshadow . It explains how to add the eyeshadow and is accompanied by useful video demonstrations.
  • Question
At what age should I start wearing makeup?
    Community Answer
You can start at the age you and your parents consider to be appropriate. There is no "must" though, you have young skin that looks fresh and youthful as it is, not in need of enhancement, so if you're not ready or don't want to wear it, that's fine too. Talk to your parents about what they think is a good age and see what your friends are doing (not that you have to copy them but it can be helpful for you to see their choices).
  • Question
Is it bad to put on makeup if I am just staying at home?
    Community Answer
If you enjoy dressing up when at home, that's totally your choice. Never wear makeup to bed though. And consider having makeup-free days to allow your skin to breathe free of covering.
  • Question
I want to convince my mom to let me wear a little bit of makeup but she won't let me wear not even the smallest amount of makeup, what should I do?
    Community Answer
If your mom already has her mind set on this, there may not be much you can do. You could talk to her about using nude colors and clear makeup items, just to enhance what you have naturally. She might be okay knowing that you're not adding obvious makeup colors. But you might also like to listen carefully to her reasons; while it can be hard to not do what your friends and peers are doing, she is older and wiser and probably has some very good reasons which you'll respect when you're older.
  • Question
Is it okay if I use a clear mascara instead of a black one to make it look more natural?
    Community Answer
Sure that's okay, if that is what you like best. It will still give the eyelashes a glossy look, which will enhance them and make them look neat.
  • Question
How do I find out my skin type?
    Community Answer
You'll find an easy test to determine this by reading through How to Determine Your Skin Type . The skin types are oily, dry, normal and combination.
  • Question
Pink clothes look pretty on me, so should I still wear pink for makeup?
    Community Answer
If pink looks pretty on you, try some pink makeup by asking the beauty counter assistant to do a makeover on you using pink shades. See whether or not you like the results, then you'll know if it's good for you. Do be aware that even if pink clothes suit you, pink makeup might make you appear too doll like or even washed out, so it's best to test first, then be honest when looking at your appearance.
  • Question

  • Question
All my friends wear heavy makeup. Will I still fit in with little makeup on?

  • Question
Do you have suggestions on what mascara to use for short-lashed beginners?
    Community Answer
Look for a mascara that specifically says it adds volume and/or makes your lashes appear longer.
  • Question
But what about foundation? No need for that?
    Community Answer
You can use foundation if you want to, but usually foundation is used to provide clear and even skin, which, if you are in middle school, you’ll probably have already. However, if you feel more confident wearing foundation then you can, just make sure it’s in your shade.

  • Question

  • Question
My school doesn't say anything about having makeup, and it is my first year of middle school. I am also afraid to ask my mom to buy makeup. Help!
    Community Answer
When you're out somewhere like Target or the drugstore, whenever you walk by the makeup section, just casually bring it up and ask if you can wear mascara and concealer if you need it. If you're getting concealer, be sure to get powder to set it so it won’t slide around.
  • Question
What is the right age to ask my parents for makeup, and how do I ask them?
    Community Answer
Whenever you feel comfortable asking is the right age. Keep it simple, and don't ask for everything right away. Whatever your parents decide, respect that.
