    In general, broken hardware cannot be fixed, at least by an amateur. Depending on what it is, you may be able to take it to a professional, but usually it's better and safer to just replace the broken piece of hardware with a new one.

If your aim is to be a computer geek, then there are multiple different disciplines that you'll need to choose from; you'd be very hard pressed to master all of them. A web developer has a different set of skills from an application developer, a network engineer, or a security specialist.

Most tests and reviews shows that Intel is the best processor manufacturer in terms of processing power and performance. AMD is also good, quite cheap, and has better graphics than Intel.

Learn how to best troubleshoot common issues (wifi, printing, etc.) -- this is most easily done by doing. There are some books on operating systems that can be helpful as well. Lots of possibilities.
