How do I make it possible to open the door by pushing on a fake book when building a hidden door bookshelf?

To make a book lever you need to use a latch on the inner side of the book case connected with wire through the wood to the book so when you tilt the book out it pulls the latch up. "I Like to Build Stuff" on YouTube has a good video on this.

This is a large and difficult project. With your parents' permission, you could try putting a twist on this, though! Instead of building a large bookcase to cover your door, take an afternoon to color and attach a cardboard replica of a bookcase to your door. If you are in upper grades, see if you could take a wood shop class and build a smaller, lighter version of this. Remember, ask permission before making any changes to your home!
