    The balloons in the interior of the model will inflate when the skin at the bottom is pulled down and air is brought in, just like a real lung. Similarly, it will deflate when we let go of the skin and air is pushed out.

    In this model, the large pink straw represents the trachea or windpipe. The two green straw segments represent the bronchi. The inner balloons represent the lungs. The bottle represents the thoracic cavity and the stretched out balloon skin at the bottom represents the diaphragm.
