  • Question
Can I use all different types and more than 25 Pokemon, even 10 trainers?
    Community Answer
Not really, as you need to pack a substantial amount of energy cards because you have to have lots of energy cards for each type that you are using. It's not recommended.
  • Question
How many cards should there be in a deck?
    Community Answer
There should be 60 cards in a deck. No more, no less. If you're building your own deck, then that's part of the challenge, making sure you have enough but not too much.
  • Question
Am I allowed to use more than two elements in battle? If so how many types can I use?
    Community Answer
Yes! You can use as many different types as you want in your deck, but some types are not good matches. For example, Fairy types and Grass types are not a good pair because if I play a Fire theme deck, then the Grass types will be torched and only your Fairy Pokemon will be of any use. You will want to think about the types you pick very carefully so you do not have large exploits in you hand. If you are talking about energy for specific Pokemon like Dragon types that require Water, Fire, and or Electric energy, that is also allowed, but again, unfavorable unless you are running a full Dragon deck and have enough energy.
  • Question
Would a grass/fairy deck be good?
    Andrew Mundell
    Community Answer
It depends on who you fight. If you are fighting against a fire/steel deck, it will not be good. A fairy/fire deck would be better to counter the steel, which is strong against fairy.
  • Question
Is a water fairy deck good to use in a tournament?
    Community Answer
I'd say it's pretty good if you want to use it in a match against a fire type deck.
  • Question
Can I mix different expansions from the same set? Like for example: Fates Collide and Steam Siege?
    Community Answer
Yes, you may use cards from every set mixed together, however in official tournaments you are only allowed to use cards from the newest few expansions.
  • Question
Is psychic and fighting a good choice for a deck?
    Andrew Mundell
    Community Answer
Yes, because if your psychic Pokémon are weak against dark, then fighting type will counter the dark type Pokémon.
  • Question
Where is a good place to get electric energy cards?
    Community Answer
Get energy cards from a comics store. Themed decks are also great for getting lots of a type of energy as well.
  • Question
How many energies should I have?
    Erwan Leconte
    Community Answer
It depends on how many cards that allow you to look for them. Try 10 - 20, depending on the energy costs.
  • Question
What would be the best sort of deck?
    Community Answer
The best would be a fighting or a psychic deck. This is because fighting also counts as rock and ground, while psychic also counts as poison and ghost.
  • Question
Can three people play at the same time?
    Community Answer
No, you can only play with an even amount of players. With two people, you can play one vs. one, but you need four or more people to play with teams.
  • Question
Where can I get energy cards or EX's alone
    Community Answer
You can get this from elite trainer boxes which come with sleeves of at least 2 EX's or Mega's and 60 energys of every type.
  • Question
    What are hit points?
    Hermit.P
    Community Answer
The amount of health it has, which decreases as more damage counters are put on it. When a Pokemon has no more hit points, it will faint and go into the discard pile along with all the cards stacked on it, such as attached energy cards and item cards.
  • Question
How do I evolve my Pokemon?
    Community Answer
If the Pokemon has been in play for at least one turn, and it's not your first turn, place its next evolutionary form on top of the previous form.
  • Question
Is it easy to make a deck of Psychic and Dragon Pokemon?
    Hermit.P
    Community Answer
The type combination is a bit weird. A Poison or Steel or Ground type goes better with Dragon Pokemon. Whether it is easy depends on how many of that type of cards you have. Dragon has two weaknesses -- Fairy and Ice -- and has many Resistances. Check the cards for the exact weaknesses and resistances.
  • Question
When replacing cards in a deck you have created, do the numbers on the bottom work towards the efficiency of the deck?
    Community Answer
No, those show the deck numbers, the numerator being which number it is in the set, the denominator being how many different cards in that set.
  • Question
Can a normal type use any kind of energy or does it have to be normal energy?
    Louis Parfait
    Community Answer
Use any energy that you have except special energy like Double Dragon Energy. The only special energy you can use is Double Colorless Energy (aka DCE).
  • Question
What should you do if you have all your cards already sorted?
    Community Answer
Just take the best ones with their basic and/or their stage one form, but be mindful of energy costs.
  • Question
Are dragon and fire types a good combo?
    Polite Pupper
    Community Answer

  • Question
What if my limit on Energy is low?
    Community Answer
You can only discard the energy if the attack allows you to discard it, or when you used it up after your attack.
  • Question
How do I play Pokemon correctly?
    Community Answer
Draw six cards and lay them on your left side in three rows of two. Next, draw seven cards. These cards will be your hand. Place one basic Pokemon face down strait out in front of you. Any other basics you may place down below your active (middle forward) Pokemon as your bench. You can have up to five Pokemon on your bench. Place the rest of your deck on your right. A turn goes as follows: First you may attach one energy to one of your Pokemon per turn. You may play one supporter per turn but as many item cards as you want. Attack by attaching the required energies. Once a Pokemon is knocked out the attacker takes a prize card. To win, take all your prize cards, run the enemy out of cards, or run them out of Pokemon.
  • Question
What is the best kind of deck?
    Community Answer

  • Question

  • Question
How do I play an EX card? Are they like basic cards?
    Andrew Mundell
    Community Answer
EXs usually are basics, so you can place them down whenever you want; you have to evolve Mega EXs.
  • Question
Does energy replenish after every use? Or is it a one-and-done?
    Community Answer
You can only play one energy card per turn on either your active Pokemon or any of your bench Pokemon. Unless specified by an attack or trainer card, the energy can't be removed from that Pokemon. If that Pokemon faints, all the energy attached to it goes into the discard pile, along with the fainted Pokemon.

I honestly don't think it matters, but don't put a lot as you don't need a lot.
  • Question
Is water and electric a good deck for tournaments?
    Community Answer
Not necessarily, since water's weakness is electric. Make a water-grass deck, since grass is resistant to electric, which helps defend your water types.
