  • Question
How do I find the average velocity?
    Community Answer
Average velocity is the displacement divided by the time interval in which the displacement occurs . Therefore v= ∆x÷∆t.
  • Question
How would the momentum of the driver's car system change if the velocity remained unchanged but another person was in the car?
    Community Answer
P=MV. Momentum depends on the mass of the body. Even if the velocity remains unchanged, if the mass of the car varies with the addition of another person, the momentum of the car changes.
  • Question
A taxi starts from rest and moves with a constant acceleration of 4m/s squared. Calculate the average velocity after 5 seconds. What's the answer to this question?
    Community Answer
    After 5 seconds, the taxi will have a speed of 4/ms^2 x 5 s = 20 m/s. The average speed is 20 m/s / 2 = 10 m/s, because the speed increases from 0 m/s to 20 m/s in a straight line -- in such a case, the average speed is the maximum speed divided by 2. In general, Vavg is the integral of V with respect to t from Vinitial to Vfinal divided by tfinal - tinitial. In this case, V = 4t m/s, so the integral wrt t is 2t^2, which gives 2 x 25 = 50 m, divided by 5 s, = 10 m/s.
  • Question
600m as the total displacement, the time and speed are 5 seconds and 20m/s. How can I calculate the average speed?
    Community Answer
Seconds * Meters Per Seconds, so in this case: 5 * 20 = 100 100 is average speed.
  • Question
The dancer moves 4 meters to the right stage in 10 sec. What is his average velocity?
    Community Answer
    Average Velocity = Total Displacement / Total time = 0.4 m/s
  • Question
How do I find velocity if speed is given?
    Community Answer
Follow the instructions listed in the article above.
  • Question
How do I find the average velocity of two different moving objects?
    Cabbache
    Community Answer
Add up their velocity and divide the sum by 2. If you had 3 objects, do the same but divide by 3.
  • Question
How do I find the average velocity of a vehicle traveling north at 81 km/h for 41 minutes, stops for 26 minutes then continues north travelling 132 km in 2 hours?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
The average velocity is the total distance traveled divided by the total elapsed time (including the time spent stopped). The distance traveled in the first leg of the journey is (81 km / 60 minutes)(41 minutes) = 55.35 km. The total distance traveled is 55.35 + 132 = 187.35 km. The total elapsed time is (41 + 26 + 120) = 187 minutes. Then the average velocity is (total distance traveled / total elapsed time) = (187.35 km) / (187 minutes) = 1.00 km/min = 60 km/h (traveling north). If that number seems low, remember that the vehicle was stopped for almost half an hour.
  • Question
Jed's house is 6.0 km away from his school. How long would it take him to go to school, riding a bus, if its velocity is 30m/hr?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
You probably mean that the bus travels at 30 km per hour. 6 km is 1/5 of 30 km. So it would take the bus 1/5 of an hour (or 12 minutes) to travel to school.
  • Question
How can I calculate average velocity if there's no time given? For example: walking to East 3km/h then to North 2 km/hr then to West 3 km/h and to South 3km/h?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
You can't do it. You'd need either the time spent or the distance traveled for each segment of the trip.
  • Question
For a car traveling 120m in 5 seconds, what is the average velocity?
    Donagan
    Top Answerer
The average velocity (or speed) is 120 meters per 5 seconds. Multiply by 12 to get 1,440 meters per minute. Multiply that by 60 to get 86,400 meters per hour. Divide that by 1,000 to get 86.4 kilometers per hour.
