How do I give VLC access to an external hard drive? Currently I only have the option of letting VLC access the desktop folder or not.

1. Insert the external hard drive's USB. 2. Open the VLC media player. 3. Press the playlist option. 4. Press "Open Media". The VLC then will ask for permission to view files from the removable hard drive. Accept and then you can use VLC media player with your hard drive.

Do you mean from the other user? If so you’ll need the consult the admin of the computer, who can control those settings. They’ll be able to give you permissions and change certain things regarding your account. If it is a Mac, it may be set a little differently but the concept is the same. So in short, ask the owner.
