How do I connect a router to a modem-router combo?

If the modem is also a router, you shouldn't need to then connect a second router to it. But if you feel you must, use an ethernet cable and connect it to the ports on your router and modem. That should work.

No. But, it's mandatory to have it hooked up initially while setting up the router connection. Then you can connect any Wi-Fi enabled device to the router without your PC.

If you're buying a new router, then you should really create a new network. A network should really only have one network. You may want to contact your ISP to see if they offer a non-combo modem, as those tend to work better with new routers.

I have a modem connecting to remote Netgear router with only one port. I want to add a nest router with a cat6 flat cable in a remote bedroom connected to the original modem via the Netgear router. Is this possible?

My laptop does not have an ethernet port. My router has a USB and and type C port. Can I use a regular mobile phone cord to connect the USB on the router to the C port on the laptop to get wired internet?

No, you would need a Wi-Fi connection.The USB port on the router is only for external hardrives to create a networked drive. If your router has it, then you need to set it up (you will need a computer with an ethernet port), or you would have too buy a new router.
