It will differ significantly depending on the contract, but my outsider understanding is that they will be contracted to produce a certain number of records. They will probably no longer be allowed to produce music for any other label. The contract may stipulate that they have to make media appearances and the record company will probably stipulate what shows they must appear on and may even stipulate what they can and can't say. The profit that the artist will make also depends on the contract.
