Try checking the spelling of the email address you submitted. If this still doesn't work, try finding some other email addresses that could possibly be linked to the account (for example any other ones that your child might've used when creating the account). If you have a subscription for something on there or an ongoing purchase that'll renew which you are trying to cancel, try contacting your bank and they would be able to block it for you. Otherwise, don't panic about it too much, just keep trying.
