  • Question
How do I choose the right colors for my pony?
    Community Answer
Just use colors that go well with you're pony's name, characteristics, and cutie mark. For example, a pony named Midnight Sky who loves night should have dark colors like black, blue, and purple. A water-loving pony named River Dream should have watery themed colors like blue, turquoise, and white. Just be creative! If you can't think of colors you like that go with them, just use your favorite colors.

Try a name that uses dark weather or color images, with words like "Cloud," "Storm," "Dark," "Dusk, "Shade," or "Fog." • Question
I have 2 - 3 OC ideas for my pony, but everyone says it's a Mary Sue. What do I do?
    Garrett

Ask them why they think so. Hammer down what makes your character a "Mary Sue," and work on fleshing out your character from there.
  • Question
How do I make an alicorn?
    Community Answer
All you have to do is add wings and a horn to the pony's body. If you have trouble deciding what design to use for the horn and wings, then you can look up reference photos or tutorials online. General Zoi's game on Doll Divine has a lot of interesting designs for wings and horns as well as hairstyles.
  • Question
How can I make an OC with a tragic backstory but not make it a Mary Sue?
    Flowery Moonlight
    Community Answer
Add in some flaws. Maybe your pony has anger issues, or maybe she has trust issues due to some tragic event from her past.
  • Question
I want to become a good animator and drawer but, I don't have the money to take art classes. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can practice making MLPs without using bases or spending real money?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
Start small. Try drawing with a reference, then gradually leave your comfort zone. Experiment; try new things you haven't before. If you are aching to be an animator or artist, ask friends who are artistically inclined to help you out. Check out art books from the library. Watch animation tutorials online (or drawing tutorials, for that matter).
  • Question
What's a good name for a tailor pony?
    Community Answer
Something related to sewing or clothes, like "Neat Stitch" or "Perfect Fit," might work.
  • Question
Is Snowdust Starr a good name for a light blue-maned and white-colored Pegasus female? Her cutie mark is a snowflake. I want her to be an Alicorn since she's my main OC.
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
It's a fine name. However, using only the barest of descriptions, many people are likely to perceive your character as a Mary-Sue, especially if it is an Alicorn. Be prepared for that. Really think about Snowdust as a character, and use your imagination to construct her life and history. Once you have, ask yourself, "Does this fit into the world of Equestria?" If the answer is no, continue working on it until you have a satisfactory backstory.
  • Question
How can I make a good color scheme for my original character?
    Community Answer
Look at all of the G4 ponies. Notice the color variations. There isn't a rule for color schemes, so you can come up with anything. Choose the colors you like the most or the ones that help the OC survive in its environment.
  • Question
If I can't draw online, can I just draw a picture of my original character on paper?
    Community Answer
Of course, but make sure to draw and color it in neatly. Also, if you're going to take a picture, make sure you have good lighting and a good camera.
  • Question
Why do most people dislike alicorns?
    Community Answer
The main reason why most people in the MLP fandom don't like alicorns is that they've become saturated and overused. There are many other reasons, but that is the main one that I've noticed.
  • Question
What should I do when I start to get lazy with my drawings?
    Community Answer
I get lazy with my drawings all the time... just have fun! Don't spend hours deciding what to draw, just choose a design and go for it. If you're bored with drawing ponies, draw something else for a while and come back to the ponies later.
  • Question
Am I supposed to download General Zoi's game?
    Community Answer
You can if you have an Android tablet or phone. If you're using a computer, simply look up General Zoi's Pony Maker -- there should be a game on Deviant Art.
  • Question
What if my pony looks too similar to an official character?
    Community Answer
It's okay to have inspiration from an official character, but make sure you change it enough so that people can't recognize it as that official character. If the color schemes are too similar, maybe change the shade of the color.
  • Question
Am I allowed to make my OC related to any of the already-existing characters? (Ex. Give Scoot-a-loo a sister or Pinkie Pie a mom?)
    Community Answer
Having a relative of a canon character should be fine as long as it fits with the actual canon of the show. For example, you can't give Scoot-a-loo a sister who apparently experienced the Babs Seed episode without any mention in the show. Don't be afraid to go wild with reasons why your OC has never been in the show, however.
  • Question

  • Question
How do I tell if something is acceptable for a fanfic?
    Community Answer
Well, it's fanfiction. You can write whatever you want. I have seen extremely dark and extremely happy fanfics, but no matter what you do, you will probably get hate. That's just how it works, unfortunately. Make sure to use proper grammar, be descriptive (show, don't tell), and think back to your high school English courses.
  • Question
Can I print ponies on General Zoi's pony creator?
    Raspberry Almond
    Community Answer
No, I have tried it before. However, you can download your pony and save it to the gallery.
  • Question
What if I'm drawing a pony representing me, but can't think of a perfect name?
    Garrett
    Top Answerer
Consider your likes and interests. Think of things that you enjoy doing, then look online for descriptive words synonymous with that subject. You may also want to consider the cutie mark and design of your pony. Sometimes the name of a pony is reflective of occupation, sometimes it isn't. If you want the name to have more than one word, try selecting words that pair together smoothly and sensibly. If you are still stumped, try asking online communities for suggestions.
  • Question
Is there any software that would help?
    Community Answer
Any digital drawing software like FireAlpaca would work. If you can't sketch the pony, you will be able to find hundreds of bases (ponies without hair or cutie marks). Just import the base you want into the program, and you should be good to go.
  • Question
Can I do anime style eyes for my My Little Pony original character? How do I draw the character's neck and legs correctly?
    Community Answer
As long as your character is original, then of course you can incorporate other art styles into your pony. And try to make a list of the scaling for your character, and then look at the other characters in the show for realistic reference. For example, if you want your pony OC to be very tall and thin, then you won't want to use a head that would be too large. Or if you already have the head drawn, then try to draw the character's neck and legs in a scale similar to that head so it won't look lopsided.
