  • Question
If I'm selling my item, do I need to provide my personal info, such as name, address, phone etc.?
    Community Answer
Yes. You will need to show your identification to sell or pawn any items to a pawn shop.
  • Question
The pawn shop has asked for 24 hours to authenticate a luxury watch that I want to sell. Is that normal?
    Community Answer
Absolutely. They will have to bring it to a specialist.
  • Question
I sold some jewelry to a pawn shop. My husband said I got ripped off. Is there a period of time that I can go back and get it back?

You probably signed a document -- a contract -- when you pawned your jewelry. If you still have your copy, read it. It will answer your questions. By the way, it's not likely that you were "ripped off" by the pawn shop. They made you an offer, and you accepted it. Now they're free to set any price they like on your jewelry. Pawn shops do take advantage of people in desperate situations, but it's a legal business.
  • Question
What can I do if my jewelry was damaged by the pawnbrokers?
    Community Answer
It depends if it was insured with the store. That should be in any contract that you signed. If you didn't sign anything, then there isn't anything you can do to legally get them to do anything. You should consult a lawyer to see if you have any grounds, as they'll be able to answer any questions you might have.
  • Question
Should I get a receipt from the items I sold to a pawn shop?
    Community Answer
Yes. In fact, most pawn shops will not let you pick up your items without receipts.
  • Question
My item was sold on eBay before the limitation of 30 days. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Realistically, nothing can be done once the item is sold. If you said sell, not pawn, then they had no liability for waiting. Otherwise you may be able to report them for improper business conduct.
  • Question
What is the pawn 10 day grace period good for?
    Community Answer
Once a customer misses a payment, the pawn shop holds the item for a specified time, known as a grace period.
  • Question
How much is a PlayStation 4 with 2 controls?
    Community Answer
It depends whether you want it new or pre-owned. Pre-owned PlayStations run between $250 and $400, depending on the condition.
  • Question
I pawned my chain and now the pawn shop closed without any notice. How can I get my jewelry back?
    Community Answer
This can be quite a sticky situation, due to the fact most pawn shops close their doors for business due to poor management and bankruptcy, which makes it difficult to recover your items or even the value of your item in cash. If you still have the contract, which is valid, you would then be able to escalate the situation and take legal action.
  • Question
Can a pawnshop owner show an item that is on a loan contract?
    Community Answer
Yes, but it may not be sold until the contract expires and legally becomes the pawnshop owner's property.
  • Question
Can I sell my pawned jewelry to the shop the next day?
    Community Answer
You should be able to. You didn't sell it to the shop; you just needed the money for some reason. You are free to do as you wish with it.
  • Question
What do I do if I have lost my pawn shop receipt?
    Community Answer
The pawn shop will normally reprint you a ticket for a small charge. Your ID will be required, and you must be the one who pawned the item.
  • Question
Can a pawn shop refuse to return my loan that I paid for until I pay for all my past due loans?
    Community Answer
Look at the terms of your contract. That doesn't sound right, but your contract will tell you.
  • Question
What should I do if I pawned my guns and the FBI won't let me un-pawn them?
    Community Answer
Unfortunately, you have no recourse. It's just like you are buying them for the first time, so if the FBI will not allow you to get them, then they will not allow you to purchase any firearm. If you are the one that purchased them originally, then something must have happened since then that is preventing you from passing the background check, like an arrest for violence (domestic/assault). If they are sentimental to you, you could try to get a family member to buy them for you, but that is not recommended. That too is illegal if they purchase them in their name for you; it would be considered a straw purchase.
