  • Question
Isn’t this the same as a period for anyone?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
No. Menstruation occurs in everyone who has a uterus (unless they are using hormone blockers). While a cisgender girl might be fine with her period, a period for a transgender or nonbinary person can be distressing and cause dysphoria.
  • Question
Is it OK to get my uterus removed?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
Sure, if you want to. This is referred to as a hysterectomy, the permanent removal of a uterus. You won't be able to get pregnant or menstruate once you get this. There are some risks to this, the procedure can be costly, and you must be over 18. Do research and make sure you truly want your uterus removed before making the decision.
  • Question
Can a man have a period?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
A trans man could possibly have a menstrual cycle, but a cisgender man can't have a period.
  • Question
Is there underwear suitable for a trans period?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
Absolutely! TomboyX has great leakproof boxers for people of all shapes and sizes. Thinx has period boyshort underwear (but is more pricey). Knix has leakproof boxer briefs in multiple sizes. Try some of these and see what works for you.
  • Question
It's the emotional toll for me. I can't stand it. How can I deal with that?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
It can be hard, but the best advice I could give is to take your mind off your period with something you enjoy. This could be watching funny videos on the internet, listing to a playlist of your favorite songs, reading, creating art, texting friends, or talking to family.
  • Question
When do periods stop for good?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
Most people stop menstruating in their late 40's or early 50's. The ending of menstrual cycles for someone in their life is referred to as menopause.
  • Question
Can I take the pill without stopping?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
Ideally, you would keep taking the pill without stopping. However, if you stop taking the pill, your period will come back and you'll be able to become pregnant (if you have P-I-V sex). You can stop taking the pill whenever you want, though. If you want to keep taking it, then you can do that, too.
  • Question
What snacks can I eat on my period?
    Nico
    Top Answerer
Go for snacks that are nutritional and don't have too much salt or sugar, such as dark chocolate, strawberries, oranges, pineapple, and other fruits. You'll also want to stay away from snacks with unhealthy fats like candy, chips, sweets, etc.
  • Question
How do I deal with my period at school? I'm a FTM and I use the men's restroom, but there isn't a gender-neutral bathroom, and the boys' room doesn't have a trash can in the stalls.

You could take a plastic bag with you into the bathroom and place your used menstrual products in it. Make sure to zip it up tightly so it doesn't leak or smell, and then throw it away whenever you have an opportunity.
