The last time I used an injected Butterball turkey, it turned black, but it was still very good. Should I only use a non-injected one?
    Community Answer
    Yes.
  • Question
Can I do this with a 5 gal stock pot, on my electric kitchen stove, if I simply replace the oil with water, and just cook it longer?
    Community Answer
No, for many reasons. Water can only reach 100 C/212 F, which is not hot enough. Boiling meat in water isn't going to taste very good. Finally, do not use oil indoors unless you want to burn down the house.
  • Question
What is the method for deep frying a turkey that weighs thirty pounds?
    Community Answer
If you try to deep fry a 30 lb turkey, you'll end up with a dried, burnt outside and a raw inside. I guess you could halve it and fry one side at a time.
  • Question
Can I filter and then reuse the peanut oil?
    Community Answer
Yes. Once it cools, fish out the big chunks. Then, get a clean funnel (not the one you use in the garage), place a coffee filter on the inside (it helps to tape down the edges so it stays put), then pour the sort of clean oil back into the original container through the filter/funnel. Then keep it in the fridge until next time. It should be good for three turkeys. If next time the oil stinks or foams, discard it (put it in the trash or recycle it). If you burn the oil, don't bother trying to save it.
