  • Question
What if I have really curly hair?
    Community Answer
You can use no-heat straightening methods (check out How to Straighten Your Hair Without Heat ). Your hair really doesn't need to be pin-straight for space buns; in fact, I think that messier, curlier ones look better. I've seen people with really curly hair make it work without straightening their hair. If it's really difficult to get an even part or get the hair to twist, dry getting it damp.
  • Question
How can I do this with hair that gets tangled easily?
    Community Answer
There are plenty of products for untangling your hair. Otherwise, I suggest going very slowly and carefully, brushing your hair and untangling rough spots as you go.
  • Question
Instead of twisting the pigtail, could I braid it?
    Community Answer
Yes, braid the ponytails, then wrap them around like buns and secure them with bobby pins.
  • Question
How do I get my hair straight without brushing it really hard?
    Mackenzie Romero
    Community Answer
You could always use a straightener, but keep it on low heat. It doesn't have to be super straight. If it doesn't work on low, take it up one notch.
  • Question
How do I create larger buns?
    Community Answer
You can just make the buns looser and they'll appear as larger.
  • Question
Could I still do it if I have really long hair?
    EmmaLee Hudgins
    Community Answer
Yes, you can. They might look bigger, though, depending on how tight you do your twists/braids.
  • Question
How do I get them to look even?
    Thewritersgem
    Community Answer
Make sure you have an even middle parting. I'd also recommend using lots of bobby pins and starting out by putting them in pigtails first.
  • Question
Can you do this with short hair?
    Community Answer
It your hair is not long enough to reach high up onto your head, you should try low buns instead.
  • Question
How do I get them even and so they dont wiggle?
    Community Answer
To get them not to wiggle, use bobby pins, and if you don't have bobby pins, use more hair ties. To get them even, you would have to take your hair and evenly split it down the middle using the middle hair line.
  • Question
If my hair is only to my shoulders, can I still do space buns?
    Community Answer
You should have enough hair to do a half up half down style, seen in part 2.
  • Question
I'm black and my hair is 4c, so how do I do it?
    JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
    Community Answer
Try blow drying your hair and using some type of gel to hold it up. If this doesn't work, you can use synthetic ponytail pieces.

    Community Answer
You could try putting gel or hairspray on your hair while in the pigtails; it'll help them look cleaner.
  • Question
What if I don't have bobby pins?
    Community Answer
You don't need to use bobby pins, though it does make it easier. Just try using more hair ties to secure your hair.
  • Question
Can I do space buns with extensions?
    Community Answer
You can try, but I’m guessing it will be quite difficult since you will have to consider the extension clips.
  • Question
How long do they stay up?
    Community Answer
If you make them tight and use bobby pins and hair spray, they should last all day.
  • Question
I can't seem to get my hair into space buns, even though I use bobby pins, hair pins, etc. What's wrong?
    Community Answer
Maybe you didn't do your pigtails high enough. Just make your pigtails higher and keep trying.

Can I make space buns with long, silky, and soft hair?
    Community Answer
Of course you can! You can tease your hair to keep it from slipping, or you can try curling your hair.
  • Question
What do I do if my hair is straight and it's coming out of the bun?
    Community Answer
I have the same exact issue, and I just use more bobby pins or hair ties to secure the hair in place.
  • Question
What If I don't have any bobby pins?
    Leadora
    Community Answer
They aren't as important, but are generally helpful in keeping baby hairs out of the way.
  • Question
Do I have to use bobby pins, or can I use something else?
    Thewritersgem
    Community Answer
When I started out, I would just use hair ties or ribbons that wrap around the buns to keep them in place; however, it made them look quite tight and not as messy as I'd hoped! If you want to keep the buns in place, try using hair clips just underneath the bun; if it's hair falling out of place you need to tame, you could always use hair mousse or lots of hairspray.
  • Question
What if my hair is very thin?
    Nadia Siddans
    Community Answer
If your hair is really thin like mine, you could still do it the way they showed you; they will just be smaller and cuter.
  • Question
How can I do braids up into two space buns?
    Community Answer
Try putting your hair in high pigtails first. Braid each pigtail and swirl it into a bun, then either pin it with bobby pins or use hair ties.
  • Question
I think my hair might be too soft to be in buns. How can I know? What should I do?
    Community Answer
You can tease your hair a little and use hairspray to stiffen it. It depends on whether your hair is short or long. If it is short, put the pigtails low, only do a little twist, and wrap it around. If you have long hair, then you can go all the way up top, do long tight twists, and wrap it around!
  • Question
How can I do space buns with short hair?
    LAlolla
    Community Answer
Do half up half down that should work or you could do space buns that are low on your head.
  • Question
How do I get the space buns to appear thicker with my thin hair?
    Community Answer
Do the twists more loosely, tug on them a little, spray hairspray, and you're good to go!
  • Question
What can I do if my hair is up to my shoulders?
    Community Answer
You can try to make the space buns go as high as they can. Take a look at Ariana Grande's "7 rings" video. She has short hair and they are placed up high.
  • Question
I have a straight bob that goes a bit past my shoulders. I can make the pigtails but when I twist them, there are little frizzy bits coming out of my bun. What can I do about that?
    Community Answer
You can try using hairspray. Many people have the same problem, but the hairspray will work. If not, then try securing them with bobby pins, hair clips, etc.
  • Question
What do I do if my hair is really thin?
    Community Answer
If your hair is really thin, you can always tease it as shown in Creating classic space buns in step 3. Just use a comb or brush and brush upwards. This is most easily done with a comb, to avoid knots. But otherwise, thin hair isn't much of a problem.
  • Question
What would happen if I didn't use the hairspray?
    Mary Maney
    Community Answer
It really wouldn’t matter too much. The hairspray just keeps your look sleek for the whole day. You will probably be fine without it.
  • Question
My hair isn’t that thick so the buns look smaller. What should I do to make them bigger buns?
    Mary Maney
    Community Answer
You could make them a bit messier. Then they may appear as larger on your head because they bulk out a bit.
